​Why should you not combine milk and meat?


Drinking milk after eating meat or combining the two can trigger several issues like gas, bloating, discomfort, stomach ache, nausea, acid reflux, heartburn, ulcers to name a few. This is because both milk and meat are sources of protein and combining the two makes the system slow, impacts digestion and may lead to acid reflux. Here’s what Ayurveda has to say about this.

​What Ayurveda says


As per the books of Ayurveda combining milk and meat or drinking milk after eating meat is considered to be a wrong combination. This is because every food has different energy and it can lead to an imbalance of doshas such as Vatta, Pitha, Kapha, which can trigger several ailments in the body and also cause skin allergies. All foods need a specific digestive environment to digest, which promotes better absorption of nutrients.

Despite all these reasons, if you still want to include both meat and milk to your diet, then make sure you consume these two protein rich foods with a gap of almost 2-3 hours, this helps in better digestion and absorption of nutrients from the food consumed.

It is fascinating to read of the problematic issue of combining mutton with milk or dairy products from the health stand point of a non Judeo-Christoan culture. It helps to add scientific legitimately for the repeated command in Exodus chapter 23 verse 19, Exodus chapter 34 verse 26, and in Deuteronomy 14:21 of not cooking a young goat in its mother's milk (or having red meat at the same meal as dairy). I already read articles of how the iron in meat could hinder the absorption of calcium, and the calcium in the dairy could hinder the absorption of iron when eaten at the same meal. I had not heard of all the various digestive discomforts which could also result. Thank you that helps further explain some of the health benefits to observing this command from the Bible.
