How foods help impact health

Food is one of the basic needs of the human body. In a recent YouTube video, Sadhguru talked about three essential foods that can enhance the nutritional value and overall wholesomeness of the diet. According to the video, a vegetarian diet allows for lower food consumption while maintaining energy levels and stable weight, preventing sudden spikes in sugar levels. He has also mentioned in the video that choosing to eat optimally can enhance both physical and mental performance, emphasizing that food should be viewed as fuel rather than a belief system. According to his video, conscious eating is essential in a vegetarian diet; variety is crucial for proper nutrition, which supports overall life quality. Scroll down to read about the three foods and their benefits.

Millets

According to Sadhguru, millets have the highest amount of protein among all cereals and calcium and iron content. They are also rich in many micro-nutrients. He mentioned in the video about the benefits of ragi and especially ragi mudde, a staple of Karnataka. According to him, ragi can be consumed in the form of dosa, roti, soup, and porridge. Shifting at least 50% of one’s diet to include millets can significantly improve health and energy levels while reducing hunger pangs due to their slow-release properties. Packed with dietary fiber, ragi aids digestion, keeps you full longer, and supports weight management. Its low glycemic index helps regulate blood sugar levels, making it an excellent choice for diabetics. Ragi is also gluten-free and rich in iron, making it suitable for people with gluten intolerance and those looking to boost their hemoglobin levels naturally.

3/5

Green Vegetables

According to Sadhguru, green foods provide iron and fiber that aid digestion; cooking greens enhances digestibility but raw greens can help cleanse mucus from the digestive tract. Eating greens early in the day maximizes their laxative effects, promoting better digestive health over time.

4/5

Fruits

In the video, he also mentioned about fruits. According to him, fruits are considered highly digestible foods that can energize individuals regardless of lifestyle; they may require frequent consumption during physically demanding activities. When energy levels dip, individuals tend to eat more. A fruit diet may require longer meal times to ensure adequate consumption since fruits are generally sweet and can lead to quicker feelings of fullness. For people on a fruit diet, especially if they are physically active, eating three meals a day is helpful. It keeps energy levels up even though the stomach may feel empty after two hours. Fruits like berries, pomegranates, and apples help lower cholesterol and support heart health. The fructose in fruits gives a quick, healthy energy boost. Natural sugars in fruits provide energy without the side effects of refined sugar. Many fruits also have a lot of water, which keeps your body hydrated and your skin fresh. Eating different colourful fruits daily gives you balanced nutrients and supports your health inside and out.
