These, and more are some of the innovative products developed by Healthy & Smart Agro, a Tamil Nadu based company who has been a prominent player in the coconut industry for the past 40 years. The patented products target besides India, the United States, Canada, Europe and Asian countries. “India is the 3rd largest producer of Coconuts in the world but falls far behind countries like Thailand & Indonesia in value addition of the same” explains Sadhak Thaika, Director of ‘HandS’ brand of products. Our focus has been simple on making foods (mainly from Coconuts) that are convenient in the kitchen, requiring minimal preparation time, keeping in line the quick pace of today’s life. Furthermore, our motto is to only ‘Make Food, that we ourselves want to eat, and be comfortable feeding our families’ Hence all the products are 100% free of any preservatives, chemicals or artificial colours – and are offered in a convenient ready to eat / cook / serve stand-up, flexible pouch packaging, that is both travel & pantry friendly – meaning they can be safely packaged in your baggage while traveling & can be stored without refrigeration, their products are also meant to be used directly out of the pack. We have given deep and complete consideration to all aspects of the manufacturing process, right from packaging, to plant set up and certifications. He goes on to add that ‘respecting our planet in environmentally friendly packaging’, pouches are sourced from South Korea - that are easy to store / use / dispose & recycle in addition to being BPA (Bisphenol-A) free which is a product used in the inner lining of canned food, that leaches into food & might be harmful to us. ‘As noted by USFDA’.
All ‘HandS’ products are manufactured on a fully automated line of machinery imported from France, Korea & Thailand, which utilizes a unique sterilization process, that give the products a long shelf life, and can be stored at ambient room temperature. A fully automated line also translates to 100% hygiene in product preparation, as there is minimal food handling during production. HandS products are manufactured in a facility that is both FSSC22000 and USFDA certified – that ensure that the highest quality of cleanliness of the Plant.
In setting up our production facility, we have also given deep consideration to minimum water & energy consumption, which greatly reduces the plant’s CO2 footprint – thus ensuring a cleaner and safer work environment. Our workforce is 100% women, who give the proper care, attention and devotion in the creation of every batch. Employing women means creating an additional bread winner for the family, who is then empowered to contribute to the daily running of family expenses.
We have also given complete attention in the formulation of all products, influenced by every mother’s expertise & Mom Smarts in food preparation. For example, we use only palm sugar crystal instead of sugar, and fresh seasonal fruits to formulate our range of vegan drinks & yogurts - which include alphonso from Ratnagiri, strawberries from Mahabaleshwar, and red banana + ice apple from Tamil Nadu. Furthermore, all products made (which are mainly vegan) contain minimal salt & spice, understanding well that these can always be added, but never removed - a boon for those with health conditions. We have also worked tirelessly in presenting wholesome, nutritious, tasty and healthy meals and formulate each product that are selected to be non-GMO, fiber & protein rich, in addition to being minimal if not zero cholesterol. “Our dedicated team had to conduct over 300 trials in a period of 20 months for one product alone (with each trial costing Rs. 50,000/-”. ‘We rather present the right product, than present a product, and then make it right’, he further adds.
