Overrated food trends that are still making the menu miserable

Overrated food trends that are not worth trying

From adding nitrogen oxide in the name of the foggy amuse bouche to mixing heaps of butter and cheese to the weird food fusions to chomping on exotic fruits in the name of fads, foodies around the world have seen it all and find most food trends pointless and overrated.

There’s no denying we all look forward to something new in terms of trends and fad, right from food presentation to innovative foods to diets that work, but with time most of these alluring fads seem like a waste of time, money and effort. Well, we have curated a list of viral trends that are still on the menu, but aren’t worth trying.

2/8

Liquid Nitrogen

No wonder, the white cloudy and foggy effect on food looks enticing and alluring to watch, and to an extent elevates the food experience and makes it stylish, but is it worth infusing food with liquid nitrogen. The smoky effect also has some hidden cons that fine dine restaurants will never point out. According to the FDA portal, it is mentioned that in some cases liquid nitrogen may lead to breathing difficulties and may harm the skin. Thus, it advised to use it wisely, but the amuse bouche fad doesn’t seem to end soon!

3/8

Rainbow colored foods

Right from eye-catching layered cakes, muffins and fondants with rainbow colours, this trend was once so popular but over the years, this coloured food trend has seen a downfall as people find it too unrealistic and unnecessary when it comes to enjoying the taste and texture of the delicacies.

4/8

Butter and cheese

Desi food vendors have exploited butter and cheese to an extent that most people find it disgusting to eat. From adding 500grams butter to egg omelets, dosas or maggi to adding grated cheese over sandwiches or burgers, the concept of food fusion has turned bizarre leaving netizens with a bad taste.

5/8

Eggs on top

Like cherry on top, eggs have made it to the top of almost every fast food. From traditional ramen to desi to sandwiches to platters adding a fried egg or hard boiled egg has turned out to be an easy and cost effective fad for food creators. But isn't it too much!

6/8

Avocado

While chefs and food aficionados swear by avocado, but is this fruit/vegetable worth the hype? While some would say that the tarty and mushy taste of avocado and its protein rich composition is worth trying, others feel that avocados taste just like a flavourless raw grass. The Internet has mixed opinions when it comes to avocados, but all things avocado is certainly not the best trend to follow.

7/8

Plant based meat

Whether to try plant based meat or not has always been a matter of debate, but social media has some hilarious reactions like: "If you don't want meat, why do you try to make things taste like meat?" -Elizabeth Reichlin mentioned in an article by Buzzfeed, wherein she expresses the irony behind creation of plant based meat! However, some food lovers feel it is a healthy way to satiate their cravings, but still is it worth the hype.

8/8

Pasta alternatives

If you are a pasta fan looking for something healthy, then chances are that you might have stumbled upon zucchini pasta or spaghetti. While this fad around zucchini is a lot more healthy, but the taste, texture is nowhere close to pasta, then why is it still there on the menu? Would you like to try some or look for better low-cal alternatives rather than just pretending to be vegetable made pasta.
