Not just Modaks: 7 Other offerings that Lord Ganesha loves

Ganesh Chaturthi, the festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, is incomplete without delicious offerings. While modaks are the most famous sweet associated with Bappa, tradition and scriptures also highlight several other delicacies that the Elephant-headed God adores. These offerings are not only rich in flavor but also carry spiritual symbolism. Here are seven other foods loved by Lord Ganesha.

2/7

Laddus

Apart from modaks, laddus are equally special for Ganesha. In fact, He is often depicted holding a laddu in His hand, symbolizing prosperity and rewards of a righteous life. From besan laddus to boondi laddus, devotees prepare these sweets to invoke His blessings for abundance.

3/7

Kheer

Rice kheer, or payasam, is a comforting dish made with milk, rice, and sugar/jaggery. It is considered highly auspicious and often served as naivedya to Ganesha. Its white color represents purity, peace, and the sweetness of divine blessings.

4/7

Coconut

Coconut holds a sacred place in Hindu rituals, and Lord Ganesha is no exception. Breaking a coconut before Him is symbolic of breaking the ego and offering pure devotion. Sweets made from coconut, like nariyal barfi or coconut ladoos, are also prepared as naivedya.

5/7

Bananas

Simple yet highly auspicious, bananas are among Ganesha’s favorite fruits. They symbolize fertility, purity, and devotion. Offering bananas is believed to remove obstacles in one’s path and bring stability in life, making them a staple during the puja.

6/7

Puran Poli

A Maharashtrian festive delicacy, puran poli is made with wheat flour stuffed with sweetened lentils (chana dal and jaggery). This dish symbolizes joy and fulfillment, and is commonly offered to Ganesha during the festival. Its wholesome nature makes it both a sacred food and a festive delight.

7/7

Sheera

Another favorite is sheera, also known as sooji halwa. Soft, sweet, and fragrant with ghee, it is often garnished with dry fruits and served piping hot. Easy to prepare yet deeply satisfying, this dish is commonly offered during daily Ganesh puja.
