Mumbai restaurant explains why employee was cleaning drain with frying net
When it comes to dining out, hygiene plays a key role. It often happens that people stop visiting certain outlets after having an awful experience. The most recent one that took the internet by storm was, when a viral video on social media made a shocking claim about a Mumbai restaurant called Istanbul Darbar. Scroll down to read the details.
The video, shared by a journalist, showed an employee of the restaurant on Mumbai's Kurla West removing the drain gunk with a frying net.
When the video went viral, the restaurant owner clarified that the food frying net looking kitchen equipment is the one for cleaning drains.

In the now-viral video, journalist Siraj Noorani warned people not to eat fried food at the restaurant. Take a look at the video:
"There is a hotel called ISTANBUL DARBAR near Kalpana Theater on Kurla West LBS Road, Mumbai, which is said to serve delicious food. Be careful if you eat something fried. Know the truth behind it," his post read. “In this viral video, hotel staff can be seen cleaning the dirt from the drain with the help of a chicken frying net," it added.
The employee could also be seen noticing a person filming him; however, he ignored it and continued with the cleaning. After removing the gunk, the employee covered the drain slab.
While the clarity issued by the owner might sound practical, it often happens that we face hygiene issues at restaurants, and they are mostly related to crockery and serving utensils.
Take a look at some of the most common hygiene tips for restaurants that they should keep handy.
Easy access to sanitizer: While the staff wash their hands regularly, it is important to keep a sanitizer handy. Improper hygiene by the restaurant can cause pathogenic bacteria to come into contact with the food that is served to the customers, which can further lead to health issues.
Cleanliness in restrooms: Hygiene at restaurants and bars is a major concern too. People often fail to understand that an unkept restroom can gradually transfer bacteria to the table, which can lead to health issues.

Anti-bacterial cleaning: If you think that mere wiping the kitchen table or platform cleans the space, you are going wrong. It is important to use antibacterial wipes or food-friendly surface sanitizer to clean the tabletops and counters.
Poor storage and handling of food: According to a study in the USA, it was found that poor food handling practices were causing 97% of food-borne diseases in both food outlets and homes. Thus, you need to clean the storage area along with the fridge and freezer.
Pest control: A regular practice of seeking help from pest control professionals to not only deal with your present problem but take measures of prevention for the future as well is highly suggested.
Hygiene issue with glassware: In many restaurants and cafes, drinking glasses are kept upside down after cleaning, which often leaves behind an awful smell, and can further cause hygiene issues with customers. It is suggested to first keep the glasses upside down to drain water droplets, and then later they should be inverted upward to let any foul smell go away gradually.
