What Christmas dinner looks like around the world

Christmas is here and so is the time to enjoy the festive season by hosting a grand meal for your friends and family. Christmas dinner not only makes you bond with your dear ones but is also the perfect time to gorge on some of the most delicious dishes. If you too are planning to fine dine with your family at home, might as well try some of the below given dishes. Here are some of the most famous Christmas foods from countries all across the globe.

​Feast of Seven Fishes- Italy

As the name suggests, the dish includes a total of seven fish variants. It is made with fishes and some other flavourful seafoods, which makes it a heavenly dish for every seafood lover. The meal's components may include some combination of anchovies, whiting, lobster, sardines, dried salt cod, smelts, eels, squid, octopus, shrimp, mussels and clams.

​Chicken Soup Avgolemono- Greece

Coming all the way from Greece, Avgolemono is served in the first course during the Christmas feast. The main ingredients of this soup are chicken, egg, rice and lemon, which gives it a burst of a variety of flavours. It takes just 30 minutes to make this delish soup and once garnished with parsley, it tastes heavenly.

​Stollen- Germany

Stollen is a German version of the Christmas special fruitcake. The cake is prepared by combining candied fruits, flour, honey, rum, eggs, sugar, butter and several other ingredients to give it the perfect spongy texture. It is later cut into pieces and served only after liberally sprinkling confectioners' sugar on it.

​Zakuski- Russia

Another fish based appetizer comes all the way from Russia. Zakuski is a lavish Russian dish and is an intrinsic part of the Christmas celebration. The main ingredients of the dish are smoked chicken, cheese, mushrooms, eggs and kidney beans. Once cooked, the dish is garnished with plum sauce which adds some sweet tones to the recipe.

​Mince Pie- England

Mince Pie is another popular Chrstmas dish which is popular across the globe but is native to England. This is basically a sweetened pie, made with mincemeat, which is usually shredded beef, mutton or pork. Dried fruits, orange juice, grated apples and alcohol are added to the recipe a combination of various flavours.

Lechon- Philippines

Lechon is the highlight of Filipino Christmas dinner. It is usually made by stuffing and roasting a whole pig. The pig is slow roasted for hours together, until the meat inside is tender and the outside skin is brown and crispy. The pork is then cut into pieces and served during dinner.

Latkes- Israel

Christmas special dish from Israel, Latkes are basically potato cutlets made by mixing grated potatoes with several other flavourful ingredients. Grated potatoes and onions are mixed with eggs, parsley, paprika, turmeric, garlic powder and pepper. Salt and flour is added, after which round cutlets are made and deep fried. Golden brown crispy Latkes are enjoyed best with a dip on the side.

Buche de Noel- France

The Bûche de Noël cake is a French Christmas tradition that dates back to the 19th century. The cake is made of chocolate and is rolled in the shape of a log. It has a melt in the mouth texture and is made of chocolate, hazelnut and whipped cream. It is dusted with powdered sugar and garnished with candied fruits before serving.

Last but not the least, India. The Christian population in the country not only celebrates Chrstimas with great pomp and show but also has some unique dishes reserved just for Christmas. One such dish is Kulkuls, which are crispy fried golden-brown sweets. Made with semolina, all purpose flour, sugar, eggs and ghee, the Kulkuls not only look tempting but also taste delish.
