Winter is here, and it is officially the time to indulge in some of the most delightful traditional treats that can revive nostalgia of good old times. In fact, in most Indian households, traditional sweets made in this season are prepared with a few simple ingredients that can not only keep you healthy, fit and warm during the cold weather. Some of these common ingredients are jaggery, coconut, sesame seeds, ghee, which are known for their nutritional value and warm potency, and consuming these sweets in this weather can give you the much needed comfort and immunity required for the body. So, follow us through these easy recipes and enjoy!

2/6

Ela Ada

Mix 2 cups rice flour with water into a pliable dough, fill with 1 cup grated coconut cooked with 1 cup finely chopped gur and cardamom, then steam in banana leaves. These Kerala specialties offer gluten-free chewiness, blending coconut's hydration with gur's blood-purifying warmth for festive snacking.

3/6

Til-Gur-Coconut Ladoo

Dry-roast 1 cup sesame seeds (til) until golden, mix with ½ cup melted gur and ½ cup grated coconut, then shape into laddoos while warm. Sesame's calcium pairs with gur's iron for bone strength, making these a Makar Sankranti staple that fights winter fatigue.

4/6

Gur-Coconut Barfi

Combine 1½ cups grated coconut and 1 cup khoya with ½ cup melted gur in a pan, cooking until thick and fragrant with cardamom. Spread on a greased plate, top with slivers of almonds or pistachios, and cut into diamonds once set. Rich in healthy fats and iron, this fudgy delight supports joint health during cold months.

5/6

Coconut Jaggery Payasam

Cook ¼ cup rice in 2½ cups coconut milk until soft and creamy, then dissolve ½ cup grated coconut gur over low heat to avoid curdling. Garnish with roasted cashews, almonds, and cardamom for a nutty crunch. This South Indian kheer warms the body, aiding digestion with probiotics from fermented coconut milk and gur's detox properties.

6/6

Coconut Jaggery Ladoo

Roast 1 cup grated fresh coconut in 2 tsp ghee until lightly golden, then stir in ½ cup grated gur until it melts and forms a cohesive dough-like mass. Add cardamom powder and a handful of chopped nuts for flavor; cool slightly and roll into bite-sized balls. These no-bake treats store well for weeks, delivering fiber from coconut and minerals from gur for winter vitality.
