Interesting saag recipes to boost immunity in the changing weather
Winter is around the corner and it’s that time of the year, when most people struggle with low immunity, infections and ailments that happen due to the change of season. While the changing weather calls for boosting immunity and strength, there are certain leafy greens (saags) that are winter staples that can naturally boost immunity during the changing weather. Here are 6 interesting saag recipes that are a must try in this season.
Sarson Ka Saag
Sarson Ka Saag is a classic North Indian winter dish, which is not just delicious but also nutritious. Loaded with vitamins A, C, k, calcium and iron, this saag recipe is made by mixing mustard greens, spinach, fenugreek leaves, radish, broccoli and it is flavored with garlic, ginger, and spices like turmeric and garam masala. The dish is often garnished with a dollop of ghee and served with makki ki roti.
This dish combines spinach with fenugreek leaves (methi), which are high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Spinach is a powerhouse of iron, vitamin C, and folate, vital for immune health. When sautéed with turmeric, garlic, and cumin, this saag becomes a flavorful and nutrient-dense dish supporting immunity and digestion.
Beetroot and Leafy Greens Saag
Beetroot adds natural sweetness and is packed with nitrates, which improve blood flow and boost energy levels. When combined with greens like mustard, spinach, or bathua, it creates a vibrant, nutrient-rich mixture that enhances blood health and immunity. Including ginger and garlic in the preparation further amplifies its immune-boosting effects due to their anti-inflammatory properties.
Mix Vegetable Saag with Cauliflower and Peas
A colorful blend of seasonal vegetables like cauliflower, peas, and greens such as bathua or radish leaves. The diverse vegetables provide a wide array of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support overall immunity. Cooking with turmeric, ginger, and cumin strengthens the dish's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities.
Chickpea Saag
This protein-rich variation includes boiled chickpeas along with spinach and other green leaves. The high plant protein content helps build immunity and muscle strength. Spiced with garlic, turmeric, and fresh coriander, this saag offers a hearty and nutritious boost during colder months.
Shahi Saag
A slow-simmered spinach curry infused with garlic, ginger, and aromatic spices, often served during festive occasions. It combines traditional greens like spinach, mustard, and bathua with spices that enhance absorption of nutrients. Its richness in iron, antioxidants, and vitamins helps fight seasonal infections and boosts overall immunity
