Smart tips to sharpen mixer grinder blades

While kitchen appliances help make the kitchen life simpler and easier, many times we forget that they too need maintenance for effective and efficient performance. One such appliance used daily for grinding spices, making chutneys, blending smoothies, and preparing batters is-mixer grinder. With regular wear and tear, its blades can lose sharpness making the appliance less efficient. While replacing the blades is the easiest option, did you know that you can actually sharpen them at home and make them effective once again? Here are a few smart ways you can use at home to sharpen mixer grinder blades.

2/6

Use eggshells

If you eat eggs, then this trick is for you. It is one of the easiest methods to sharpen mixer blades. All you need to do is, clean and dry a few eggshells, place them inside the mixer jar and run it for a few seconds. The slightly abrasive texture of the shells helps remove residue stuck on the blades and can restore some of their sharpness.

3/6

Use rock salt

This is one of the most popular methods. Simply add a tablespoon of coarse salt into the jar and pulse the mixer for a short duration. It is believed that the rough granules act as a mild abrasive that helps smooth out minor dullness on the blade edges.

4/6

Add ice cubes

Another smart and easy way is to blend ice cubes. All you need to do is, add a few cubes to the jar and run the mixer briefly. It is said that the hardness of the ice helps clean the blades and can improve their cutting ability. The ice cubes also help remove the stubborn food particles that may be stuck around the edges. It is one of the most inexpensive methods of sharpening the blades and is said to be very effective too.

5/6

Use baking soda

This is also a popular method. To implement it, mix baking soda with water to make a thick paste, and carefully apply it to the blades with the help of a brush. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then gently scrub to remove grime, grease, and buildup that may be affecting performance. It is said that the roughness of soda, cleans the edges of the blade and make them sharper to blend food particles.

6/6

Use aluminum foil

For this, take a small piece of aluminum foil, crumple it into a ball, place it in the mixer jar and run it for a few seconds. It is said that foil helps realign minor imperfections along the blades and improves the effectiveness.
