2/6

Bread preparation

Take 8 bread slices and trim the edges. You can keep the edges if the bread is fresh. If the edges seem a bit hard, remove them. Now roughly tear the bread slices into 3-4 parts. Add the bread pieces to a grinder and blend a few times to form breadcrumbs. Take out the coarse breadcrumbs in a large bowl.

3/6

Dough preparation

Now add about 8 tbsp of milk to the breadcrumbs and mix well with your hands. The milk might seem less as compared to the breadcrumbs but don’t worry, keep mixing them together. After mixing for a while the mixture will start binding together and will take the shape of a dough. If it still feels crumbly, add 1-2 tbsp milk more and again knead it.

4/6

Frying the balls

Now pinch out small balls from the dough and roll them between your hands to make smooth balls. Use all the dough to make such balls and place them on a plate. Heat oil in a pan and when it is hot, drop in the balls. Fry in batches. Once the balls turn golden-brown in colour, take them out on an absorbent paper.

5/6

Sugar syrup

Before frying the balls, add 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water to a pan. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer until the syrup thickens a bit. Make sure the syrup isn’t too thick. It should just have a one-string consistency. Once it attains the needed consistency, switch off the flame.

6/6

Final touches

Now add the fried balls to the sugar syrup and turn on the heat. Keep the heat medium and cook for about 5 minutes. Now, switch off the heat, cover the pot with a lid and let the balls stay soaked for about 2 hours.

After 2 hours, the balls will swell up and double in size. Your Gulab Jamuns are now ready to be served. Serve warm with some ice-cream to enjoy the best combo ever.
