How to make South Indian Onion Uttapam for breakfast

Onion Uttapam Recipe

If you are also bored of regular South Indian breakfast staples like idli and dosa, then try this Onion Uttapam. The best thing is, you can make it with the same batter of dosa. So, what are you waiting for? Give it a try and enjoy!

Ingredients


1 cup idli rice, ¼ cup urad dal, ¼ tsp fenugreek seeds, salt to taste, water as required, 1 large onion, 1–2 green chillies, 2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, 1 tbsp grated carrot, and oil for cooking

First of all, wash rice and urad dal separately.

Soak rice for 4–5 hours and urad dal with fenugreek seeds for 3–4 hours.

Now blend them to make a slightly coarse paste. Add salt and combine well.

Cover and let the batter ferment in a warm place for 8–12 hours.

Once the batter is ready, heat a cast-iron on medium heat, grease, and pour a ladleful of batter to make a pancake.

Sprinkle chopped onions, green chillies, coriander, and carrot evenly on top and press them lightly.

Drizzle oil around the edges and cook until the base is golden. Serve hot with sambar and chutney.
