Make almond milk at home without additives

As kids we have been taught that cow’s milk is the most essential drink for overall development of body and mind. No wonder, milk is packed with the goodness of protein, healthy milk fats and calcium, which is good for bones, teeth, brain cells, heart health and also helps in boosting metabolism.

But what about people suffering from lactose intolerance, there’s no denying that lactose intolerance can lead to diarrhea, food poisoning and triggers disorders like Irritable Bowel Syndrome and milk is a strict NO for people suffering from this disorder!

And this where vegan milk comes into the picture, over the last decade people have gradually moved towards lighter alternatives to dairy based milk and Almond milk is believed to be one of the healthiest vegan milk, but the packaged ones contain preservatives. Here’s a brilliant way to make fresh almond milk at home that too without any preservatives or additives.

How to make almond milk

To make this simple milk, you need 180 grams of almonds. Soak them in water overnight. Cover and refrigerate the soaked almonds.

Drain the water and peel the almonds and add them to the blender and add 4-5 cups of cold water and keep blending till the texture turns smooth, lump-free and flowy.

Next, if you want to add sweetness, you can add sugar. Also add in ½ teaspoon vanilla essence to give the milk a nice flavoursome texture.

Make sure, you begin the process of blending slowly and then blend it at a high speed to ensure there are no particles.

Lastly, using a mesh cloth or sieve strain the milk and store in a glass bottle. This milk can also be tweaked as per taste, this can last up to 4 days in a refrigerator. Enjoy!

By adding vanilla essence, which is full of chemicals, you are not going to drink a natural drink. It is better to use a spice like cinnamon, cardamom or saffron.
