How to make Delhi's famous light and fluffy Ram Laddu at home

Street-style Ram Laddu recipe


Ram Laddu is not just a street snack of Delhi. It is a story of vision, migration, and determination of a person, that slowly became the culinary part of the Capital city. It is a deep-fried snack made with moong and chana dal, which is served with grated radish, chutneys, lemon juice, and coriander leaves on top. It is also popular in western Uttar Pradesh. Ingredients


1 cup yellow moong dal, 2 tbsp chana dal, 1–2 green chillies, 1-inch ginger, salt to taste, a pinch of hing, oil for frying

Step 1


Wash and soak moong dal and chana dal overnight.

Step 2


Wash them again and then grind coarsely with green chillies and ginger. Avoid adding water.

Step 3


Make sure that the batter is thick and slightly grainy. To this, add salt and hing.

Whisk the batter for 2–3 minutes to make it light and fluffy.

Heat oil in a kadhai on medium flame and drop small spoonfuls of batter into hot oil.

Deep fry until golden and crisp and remove and drain on paper towel.

Serve hot with grated radish, tamarind chutney, coriander chutney, chaat masala, red chilli powder, and lemon juice on top. Enjoy!
