How to make Bihari-style Sattu Paratha for dinner at home

Classic Sattu Paratha Recipe

Also known as Poor man's protein, sattu is made by roasting and grinding Bengal gram (roasted chana or chickpeas). It is rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron, making it highly nutritious. In Bihar, sattu is used to make paratha and the world-famous litti. Here we have got the simplest Sattu Paratha recipe filled with the goodness of mustard oil. Scroll down to read the recipe.

Ingredients


2 cups whole wheat flour, salt to taste, water, 1 cup sattu, 1 small onion, 2 green chillies, 2 cloves garlic, 2 tbsp coriander leaves, 1½ tbsp raw mustard oil, 1 tsp juice, ½ tsp ajwain, salt to taste, and mustard oil for cooking

Step 1



Sieve flour in a bowl, add salt and knead a soft dough using enough water. Set it aside.

Chop onion, green chillies, garlic, and coriander leaves.

Add sattu powder in a bowl, also add all the herbs, salt, and mustard oil. Combine well and make sure it has binding consistency.

Divide the dough into small balls and fill each ball with enough sattu mixture.

Step 5



Roll out thin paratha and also preheat a tawa on a low flame.

Cook the parathas on preheated tawa using enough mustard oil, until golden and crisp.

Serve hot with green chutney or pickle and curd on the side.
