How to clean tough grease from kitchen cabinets

Smart kitchen cleaning tips

While the kitchen slab, counters and gas top may be cleaned regularly, the kitchen cabinet also gets dirty due to the accumulation of grease from kitchen fumes. This is a peculiar problem, particularly in the Indian kitchens where cooking is unimaginable without frying and tadka. Over the time this grease becomes tougher, difficult to clean and causes a yellowing of the racks and cabinets. Sparing a little time can prevent and address this problem.

Daily cleaning

Most of the dirt and grime accumulates on the wooden exterior of the cabinets. As you close the kitchen for the day, just take a clean cloth, dip it in some vinegar water and wipe off the cabinets. It would not take more than five minutes.

3/6

Open cabinets

In the open part of the cabinet, the grime mostly accumulates on the displayed boxes and bottles. Once the item inside the bottles-be it spices or lentils or flour -- is consumed and needs replacement, just wash them with soap and water, wipe them clean and fill them with supplies. This would be a continuous process and would prevent accumulation of dirt in the long run.

4/6

Weekly cleaning

Once a week, spray the cabinet doors and racks with a cleaning liquid made with one part soda, one part washing powder and one part vinegar and wipe clean. You can spray this at the walls inside the racks too.

5/6

Monthly cleaning

Replace the papers or liners from the racks with fresh ones. Wipe clean the bottles and containers kept on the shelves with soap added to warm water.

Things that always work

Warm water to which soap has been added helps remove the toughest grease. You can also add some vinegar or lemon juice to it. Just spray it on tough stains or greasy areas and wipe it off with a cotton cloth.
