Why is Amla a must have summer treat?

With an increasing inclination towards health and fitness, foods that were once used as an Ayurvedic treasure in several remedies and medicines are now gaining prominence. One such green colour fruit is Amla known as Indian Gooseberry. From kadha to pickle to juice, this age-old fruit has potent medicinal properties which can almost heal all three doshas (kapha/vata/pitta) at the same time. Here are some more reasons why health experts suggest adding amla to the daily diet, but do you know what happens when you eat amla daily? Read on to find out…

Why should you eat amla daily?

Amla in Sanskrit translates as Amlaki which means nectar of life which defines its potent properties that can boost immunity, improve digestion, metabolism and gut health. Loaded with antioxidants like vitamin C, fiber and minerals, amla has around 10 times more vitamin C than oranges and other citrus fruits, which helps in reducing the damage caused by free radicals and helps in cell regeneration. Eating amla daily helps in treating several underlying ailments like infertility, digestive issues, cold, cough and allergies to name a few. What’s more, amla has excellent anti inflammatory, anti-cancer properties, thus eating this fruit raw or as a juice can naturally fix several health issues.

How much amla should you eat daily and why?

According to experts, an average adult can eat around 75-90 mg of amla per day. A single serving of 100 grams of amla has around 300 mg of vitamin C, dietary fiber, calcium, iron and antioxidants like polyphenols, alkaloids, and flavonoids. Eating amla daily helps in boosting immunity, reduces the risk of age-related macular degeneration and improves eyesight due to the presence of vitamin A. Apart from that, it helps in reducing weight due to the presence of dietary fiber and acids like tannic along with protein, which helps in burning fat, nourishing and reduces bloating to name a few. Here’s how you can add amla to your daily routine.

How to include amla in daily diet?

The sweet, sour, tarty taste and pungent aroma of amla makes it difficult for some people to relish it raw, but experts believe that eating it raw or as a juice or just sun drying it can be the best ways to reap the benefits of this green fruit. In fact, the dehydrated and sun dried version of amla is high in concentration of nutrients which makes it a perfect thing to munch anytime.
