Spices are a blessing in disguise

These harsh summers are taking a toll on us and we have started opting for foods that are cold or have a cooling effect such as ice creams, watermelon, cold drinks etc. Summers can sometimes be unbearable and produce a lot of heat in our body. We sweat a lot and therefore we need to stay hydrated as well. Heat in the body can result in acne, inflammation and burning sensations in the heart. One essential food item that can help us beat the heat is spices. They are natural coolants and help to reduce the heat in our bodies. They are easily available and can be added to your diet by either using them in making your meals, soaking them in water and then consuming that water or else directly consuming the spice directly. These spices will not only cool your body but will also help in digestion. Some of the spices that will keep you cool are listed below.

Fennel seeds

Fennel seeds are rich in vitamin C and thus help to reduce inflammation in the body caused due to heat. Heat in our body can lead to heart burns and indigestion and fennel seeds can help us fight them as it regulates proper digestion by stimulating the intestinal juices and also helps in the prevention of acidity. You can eat these seeds directly after your meal or you can soak them in water overnight and drink the strained water. You can add black salt or lemon to the water and drink it on a regular basis for maximum effect.

Fenugreek seeds

Fenugreek seeds can help to reduce rashes, blisters, discomfort and nausea which can often be caused by heat. These seeds help to lower our body temperature and acts as a coolant. You can add them in your food or boil them in water and keep them to cool overnight. The next morning you can strain the water and drink it. Fenugreek seeds can also help to cure bowel problems like bloating and diarrhea.

Amchur

Amchur is the powder made from raw dried mango and is sweet and sour in taste. This spice is rich in antioxidants and not only has cooling effects but also has the ability to get rid of acne cause due to heat. It makes your skin healthy and helps to clear the oil and sweat deposited on our face. You can add amchur to your fresh chutneys, pickles, fruits and cooling drinks. You can either buy this spice from the market or you can also prepare it at your home for a healthy outcome.

Cumin seeds

Cumin seeds are one of the most used spices in the Indian cuisine and have a lot of health benefits. One of them being that it helps our body to detoxify and get cured from the problems of gas and acidity. Cumin seeds that either be eaten directly, can be added in our meals or we can add ground cumin powder to our summer coolers such as lassi and lemon soda as it helps us to stay hydrated and prevents us from having heatstroke. It helps us to feel comfortable and pleasant in cases of bloating and indigestion.

Coriander seeds

Coriander seeds help to keep the digestive tract clean and also help in the prevention of inflammation during summers. It helps to keep our body cool and it can lower our body temperature. Coriander seeds have diaphoretic properties that provide a remedy for fever. These seeds are rich in antioxidants and have dietary fibers that help in a better functioning of the liver by promoting the production of digestive hormones.
