Benefits of herb-infused oils

These infused oils help give that restaurant-like feel and touch to your simple dishes and also offer a nutritional boost to the overall preparation. While you can easily find these infused oils in the market, you can also make preservative-free ones at home. Rosemary-infused oil

Benefits: According to a study, rosemary has powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal effects, which may help reduce infection risks and support the immune system as well. It also states that rosemary compounds protect cells from oxidative damage and reduce inflammation as well.


How to make: Heat 1 cup olive oil and add 2-3 rosemary sprigs to it. Simmer on low flame for 10-12 minutes. Once done, cool, strain and store in a clean and dry bottle.
How to use: It can be drizzled over salads or one can use them for making roasted potatoes, sweet potatoes, and add them while sauteing veggies.

Garlic-infused oil

Benefits: It is mentioned in the studies, garlic consumption helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by reducing total cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure. It also contains antioxidants that reduce oxidative stress. It is also said that garlic helps flush out toxins from the liver and blood, thanks to its sulfur-containing compounds. Garlc is rich in antioxidants that combat oxidative stress and helps reduce chronic inflammation linked to diseases.
How to make: To make this oil, heat 1 cup sunflower oil and add 4-6 crushed garlic cloves to it. Simmer for 3-5 minutes. Cool, strain , and store in a clean bottle.
How to use: This infused oil is best used for salad dressing, topped on pasta, or you can add it to mashed potato or on top of dips as well.

Basil-infused oil

Benefits: Basil is a powerhouse of nutrition. It is said to have essential oils, including eugenol, linalool, and citronellol, which have potent anti-inflammatory activities, helping reduce risks of inflammatory conditions like arthritis and cardiovascular disease.
How to make: This one is made by blanching fresh 4-6 basil leaves, which are first boiled in water, shocked in ice water, and are then blended into warm olive oil, simmered for 2-3 minutes and then strained and stored.
How to use: This oil is ideal for caprese salads, and can be drizzled on top of pizzas, pastas, and soups.

Thyme-infused oil

Benefits: According to a study, thyme is rich in antioxidants like vitamin A, vitamin C, thymol, and carvacrol. The study also highlights that these compounds enhance the activity of antioxidant enzymes and reduce oxidative stress.
How to make: To make this oil, simply heat 1 cup neutral oil, add 2-3 sprigs of thyme, and simmer for 10-12 minutes. Once done, strain, and store in a clean bottle.​
How to use: This oil is best used for marinating meat, and can also be brushed on grilled veggies or meat before serving to add an aroma to the dish. However, make sure that you consume it in moderation to reap the benefits of this oil.

Oregano-infused oil

Benefits: According to a study , it is high in antioxidants that help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body. The essential oils of oregano also show antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties, which help fight infections.


How to make: Warm a cup of olive oil, add 1 tsp fresh or dried oregano to it. Simmer for 2-3 minutes. Strain and store.


How to use: This one is best used as a topping for pastas, soups, salads, and even lasagnas.

Chilli Garlic Oil

Benefits: As per a study, capsaicin from chili oil and sulfur compounds in garlic oil both are known for their antioxidant properties that help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, and are linked to chronic diseases such as heart disease and arthritis.
How to make: Heat a cup of neutral or olive oil, add 4–6 garlic cloves, 2 dried red chillies, and a little thyme. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, then strain and store.​
How to use:
This one’s perfect for dumplings, noodles, pastas — and can even be stirred into salads and creamy dips for an extra flavour boost.
