​​Thekua​


Thekua is a traditional sweet made in almost every household in Bihar and Jharkhand during Chhath Puja and other special occasions. Made with wheat flour, jaggery, and ghee, Thekua is a small, deep-fried sweet snack, which is offered to the Sun God and then distributed as a prasad.

​​Foods offered to Lord Surya on Chhath Puja​


Chhath Puja has begun and it’s that time of the year, when devotees worship the Sun Lord and his sister Chhathi Maiya to seek blessings. This Hindu festival is extensively celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and certain parts of Uttar Pradesh and Nepal. During this four day festival, the ladies of the house observe austerious fast, prepare and offer several foods to the Sun Lord. Here are some of the popular offerings made during the festival of Chhath.

​​Rice​


Raw rice is a popular offering made during Chhath puja, this is because rice is considered pious. In fact, rice is also used to make kheer like Rasiyaw to offer to the deity during this puja.

​​Gur ​


Gur, also known as Jaggery, is often used in the preparation of sweets and is offered as a part of the ritual. It is believed that offering jaggery adds sweetness and purity and brings prosperity to the devotee and her family.

​​Dal ​


Black lentils are an essential part of the Chhath Puja rituals and offering. The color black is considered auspicious and is associated with the Sun God.

​​Fruits​


Some of the common fruits that are offered during the Chhath Puja are sugarcane, bananas, and coconuts are offered to the Sun Lord as they are considered pure.
