Facts about fast-food restaurants that no one told you

We all love to gorge on fast food and so great is our love for them that we don't care whether they are healthy or not. While some fast food restaurants have fixed kitchen rules and protocols, others have an instinctual approach towards the cooking methods and the amount of ingredients to be used. Some have secret recipes for a particular dish, while some just go for a standard one. Here is a look at few unknown facts about Indian fast food restaurants. While it cannot be claimed that these facts are true for all the restaurants, but they do hold correct for a large number of them.

Same gravies for veg and non-veg dishes

Have you ever ordered Chicken Butter Masala and Paneer Butter Masala together? Did you feel that both taste the same? It is because of the reason that often, restaurants tend to cook and use the same gravy for both the dishes. This saves them time and manpower to make different gravies for two items on their menu.

3/9

Mixing of salt and pepper

Many a times it happens that the salt sprayed from the salt sprayer tastes a bit peppery. It is true for vice versa also when sometimes, pepper tastes bit salty. Do you know why this happens? It happens because salt and pepper sprayers are not regularly cleaned, and often they get interchanged with each other. This leaves a trace of their flavours mixed with one another.

4/9

Not all cafes and restaurants use health friendly disposable cups

Many tea and coffee joints serve beverages in styrofoam cups. The problem here is that when hot beverages are poured in these cups, it becomes potentially dangerous for the body. Also, this material hurts the environment and is very hard to recycle.

5/9

Veg and non-veg kitchens not being separate

Many a times vegetarians go to restaurants that serve both veg and non-veg food hoping that the kitchens to prepare them are separate. However, this does not stand true for all the cases. Many restaurants and roadside fast food eating joints use the same utensils to cook veg and non-veg dishes, in order to save time and resources.

6/9

Storing cooked and raw meat together

It is a known fact that in order to avoid health hazards, raw and cooked meat should never be stored together. But many restaurants fail to do so. This can cause cross-contamination. Foodborne pathogens from raw meat can easily spread to ready-to-eat foods and cause food poisoning.

7/9

It is better not to be the first customer for coffee

Coffee machines are cleaned with chemicals that leaves its traces, no matter how well they are wiped off. When the first cup of coffee is poured after the cleaning, the traces of these chemicals get mixed in it. This results in a bad taste and in some cases, could lead to poisoning.

8/9

The kitchens are not as organized as you think them to be

We have a fixed perception of a neat and clean kitchen, that we have seen on television and cookery shows. But in reality, the kitchens get very disorganized and chaotic during peak hours. Sometimes, these often lead to violation of some food safety rules.

9/9

Cold drink and fizzy drinks make you eat more

Yes! The cold drinks and fizzy drinks often cost lesser as compared to tea and coffee. Also, the quantity is more as compared to milk based beverages. This is because colas and sodas increase hunger and this leads to us eating more, and eventually, more profits for the restaurant!
