Health benefits of fruit juices

Fruits are a powerhouse of nutrients and that is why it is often suggested to add them to the regular diet. While fruits are good, one can also add juices in the diet to break the monotony and even Dr. Joseph Salhab, a gastroenterologist expertise in digestion, liver, pancreas & nutrition suggests adding juices in daily diet. In a recent video on Instagram, he mentioned about juices he drinks as a doctor to boost liver, brain, and gut health. The caption of his post reads, "Juices I drink as a doctor for gut and liver health. Consuming whole fruits is best but sometimes I love this for convenience. I don’t overload them - 30 to 60ml in 100ml ice water." In the post he duly mentioned that consuming whole fruits is best, but sometimes he consumes them in the form of juice as well, and to create a balance, he mixes 30-60 ml of juice in 100 ml ice water to gain maximum benefits. Scroll down to read the details.

Pomegranate juice

As per Dr. Joseph's post, pomegranate juice is good for the liver. It is said that pomegranate juice is loaded with powerful antioxidants like polyphenols and flavonoids. These help protect liver cells from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals. The study also suggests that long-term pomegranate intake may be effective in ameliorating liver enzymes in adults with obesity and metabolic disorders who are more likely to have elevated baseline liver enzymes due to some degree of liver injury or tissue damage.

3/5

Blueberry juice

According to Dr Joseph's post, blueberry juice is good for brain function. Blueberries are rich in anti-inflammatory properties that help protect brain cells from damage. As per a study by the National Library of Medicine, blueberries contain polyphenolic compounds, most prominently anthocyanins, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, anthocyanins have been associated with increased neuronal signaling in brain centers, mediating memory function as well as improved glucose disposal, benefits that would be expected to mitigate neurodegeneration. Regular consumption is linked to improved memory and cognitive function, thanks to the protective effects of its antioxidants on brain cells. Its bioactive compounds help reduce inflammation, supporting immune function and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

4/5

Cranberry Juice

In his post, he mentioned the benefits of drinking cranberry juice for gut immunity. The study also states that the A-type structure of cranberry proanthocyanidins seems to be responsible for much of this fruit's efficacy as a natural antimicrobial. The study also says that while research is still limited, more clinical trials are showing that eating cranberries can have good effects on heart and metabolic health. This includes better blood pressure, improved cholesterol levels, healthier blood sugar control, and lower signs of inflammation and oxidative stress.
