Traditional Eid Recipes

Bakrid or as you may call it Eid-al-Adha is a Muslim festivity that is celebrated every year to honor Ibrahim’s sacrifice of his beloved son as an obedience to Allah’s command.

Since Bakrid is almost around the corner, it’s time to start preparing for the feast. The feast must incorporate the traditional Eid dishes like the famous Sheer Khurma. So, here’s a list of traditional dishes which will give a quick Eid food tour.

Awadhi Biryani

Awadhi Biryani is a very renowned Biryani dish of Lucknow. It has the perfect blend of spices that makes the biryani more flavorful. The biryani is layered with rice and succulent mutton pieces. It’s then topped soaked saffron in milk which just adds the extra punch to the Awadhi Biryani.

This royal Biryani is mostly enjoyed on special occasions like Eid. The preparation of the biryani does take time but it’s completely worth it.

Shami Kebab

Appetizers are always needed to kick start a party. What’s better than having kebabs, right? Shami Kebabs are the ultimate mouth-watering kebabs with the stuffing of chana dal, mutton, onions, chilies, and loads of spices.

It makes a great snack recipe alongside chai. These crispy kebabs are a famous Pakistani non-vegetarian snack that goes well with a festival like Eid.

Nalli Bhuna

Who can forget Nalli Bhuna when it comes to traditional Eid dishes? Nalli Bhuna is a classic Mughlai mutton curry recipe that is full of spices like nutmeg powder, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, and much more. Instead of curry-cut mutton pieces, Nalli Bhuna has mutton shanks cooked in curry.

It’s specially prepared on Eid and makes a great meal combo when served with Butter Naan or Rumali Roti. Nalli Bhuna should especially be made in desi ghee to make it more flavorful.

Sheer Khurma

Sheer Khurma is a popular dessert prepared on Eid. This delicacy is made from vermicelli, dates, nuts, and milk. The name itself makes it look grand and appetizing. Sheer Khurma should be there on your menu if you’re planning to make a dessert on Eid.

This delectable dessert is super easy to make and won’t take up much of your time. It’s usually part of breakfast on Bakrid but you can enjoy this dessert the whole day.

Shahi Tukda

If you have attended weddings in Hyderabad, you surely must have eaten Shahi Tukda in the dessert. Shahi Tukda, also known as Double ka Meetha is a renowned Hyderabadi dessert that is prepared to celebrate special occasions like festivals, weddings, etc.

The bread is first drowned in desi ghee and condensed milk. It’s then further topped with chopped dry fruits. It’s super creamy and tastes amazing. You should incorporate this in your feast and make your day more special.
