For most of us Jamun is not just a little tropical fruit rather a nostalgia of good old-times. The fond memories associated with this fruit truly revives the good-old food memories of childhood and this is why this summer fruit holds a special place in our hearts. Right from eating them with a pinch of black salt and chaat masala to enjoying the sweet-tarty taste of jamun juice or jamun pickles, this versatile fruit and its distinctive taste, texture and flavour was something to die for!

No wonder, jamun is relished for its amazing taste and flavour, but did you know jamun is enriched with nutrients that help in treating several ailments? Apart from that, jamun has also been used widely for culinary innovations and if you too are fond of this summer fruit, then it's time try it with a twist of innovation as we have curated a few interesting jamun recipes to make your summers interesting!

​Jamun Masala Lemonade

Jamun juice is another most popular summer drink, but have you ever tried adding some twist to the regular jamun juice? Well, this easy lemonade recipe will give your indulgence a burst of refreshing flavours. To make this recipe you just need a few simple ingredients like jamun, sugar, lemon juice, water and a melange of spices. In fact, if you are bored with your regular lemonade then tweak it with a mix of black plum.

To make this lemonade, take 10-15 fresh jamuns and deseed them manually. Then take a blender and in the jamuns, squeeze one whole lime, add ¼ cup sugar, 1 teaspoon black salt and 1 teaspoon chaat masala(optional) and 1 1/2cup water, blend it all into a smooth drink. Take serving glasses, add crushed ice, pour in the drink and crush some mint leaves and serve it chilled.

Note: You can tweak the ingredients as per your preference.

​Jamun Kulfi

Have you ever tasted a kulfi with a slight tarty and sweet taste, if not then it's time for some innovation. Well, give your boring kulfis a twist of taste with this enticing Jamun kulfi recipe. You just need a few ingredients to nail this traditional chilled dessert.

To make this Jamun Kulfi, take a vessel and add in 1litre milk and allow it to boil. Once the milk starts reducing, add in1 cup of condensed milk. Make sure you keep stirring the milk so that it does not stick to the bottom.

In the meantime, wash the black jamun (100gm), deseed them and keep them in the refrigerator for some time. Next, add in 1 cup sugar to the milk blend and continue stirring and add some cardamom powder to the milk. Once the milk turns thick, take two bowls and divide the mixture equally.

Take a blender and make a smooth paste of the jamun pulp and add some sugar to give it a sweet taste. Then mix this jamun blend milk in a bowl and in the other bowl add 4-5 saffron strands, stir well. If you want, you can also add some crushed almonds to the milk blend with saffron. Then grease the moulds with some ghee and fill half the mould with jamun blend and half with the saffron blend. Cover the kulfi moulds and refrigerate for 5-6 hours and your jamun kulfis is read to relish!

​Jamun mixed fruit salad

There’s nothing more nutritious and healthy than a bowl of fresh fruits and adding seasonal fruits can simply give your breakfast a much needed boost of nutrition. Well, if you too are fond of Jamun, then you can give your indulgence a twist of tarty taste with jamun mixed with other fruits.

To make this easy Jamun fruit salad, you need 10 fresh jamuns, 5 strawberries, 1 cup mango diced, grapes, honey, lemon and mint leaves. To make this easy salad wash the fruits and cut them into desired shapes. In the meantime, take a bowl add 2 tablespoon honey and 1 whole lemon juice with a dash of black salt, mix it into a smooth dressing. Then take a large bowl and add in the fruit and the dressing, mix it all together and transfer the salad to small bowls and serve it with some mint leaves.

Note: If you want to make it more enticing, you can add low-fat fresh cream, but make sure you freeze the fresh cream and then use it. This will give your salad a perfect exotic taste.

​Jamun Raita


Why go for store-bought yoghurts, when you can make it in the desi way with Jamuns. Yes, raita and jamun might sound like a strange combination, but is super delicious and healthy. Curd is known for its cooling properties and an amalgamation of curd and nutrient rich jamun can make for a hearty bowl of happiness and health. So, without a further ado try this easy raita at home and ditch the frozen yoghurts.

Take 1 ½ cup jamun, wash them properly and remove the seeds. Then take 3 cup of fresh curd, ½ cup sugar, a dash of salt, 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder and mix it all together. Then add the jamun and mix well. Make sure you refrigerate it and then serve, the chilled taste of this sweet and spice yoghurt will give your tastebuds a burst of flavours.

Note: You can also make it in a salty way, just skip adding sugar and add 1 teaspoon roasted cumin, black salt and ½ teaspoon blackpepper. Lastly, add some chopped coriander leaves and relish!
