Avoid buying these kitchen items on Dhanteras

The festival of lights is finally here and we have cleaned our homes and started decorating our houses to welcome Maa Lakshmi. These festivities will start on October 23, when Dhanteras will be celebrated. It falls on the Trayodashi or the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha and it is one of the major reasons that this festival is also known as Dhanatrayodashi. This day is associated with shopping for Diwali celebrations and it is said that purchasing metals like Gold, Silver and Steel is considered auspicious on this day. But, do you know about certain kitchen items which are prohibited for purchasing on Dhanteras? Read more to find out about them. (Images courtesy: iStock)

Iron Utensils

It is believed that buying anything made of iron or loha on Dhanteras is considered to bring bad luck. Thus, one should never buy iron or loha in any form on Dhanteras. For example, many people buy Kadhai on this day, so if you really need a kadhai and the necessity cannot be ignored, buy a copper one instead or a day prior to Dhanteras.

3/7

Empty Vessels

Well, Diwali is a festival that’s often associated with several superstitions and it is because of this reason that elders advise against buying an empty pitcher. Buying an empty vessel denotes that your home will also become empty of wealth and prosperity. Thus, if you are getting a deep vessel like a pitcher, bowl, kadhai then immediately fill it with some water or food and then take it to your home.

4/7

Knives

Knives are often sharp in nature and it is said that one should not buy anything that changes or destroys the shape of anything. Elders also believe that sharp objects bring bad luck to the family and thus should not be purchased on Dhanteras.

5/7

Steel Utensils

Most of the people are not aware of the fact that steel is made of iron. Most people buy utensils made of steel on this day as it is cheaper than brass or copper.

6/7

Glassware

Astrologically, glass or kanch is associated with the planet Rahu and it is the sole reason that it should be avoided on Dhanteras. Also, glass is a sharp object and is very fragile and can break easily. Thus, one should avoid purchasing glassware as well as Dhanteras.

7/7

Oil/ghee

Be it mustard oil, olive oil or refined oil and even ghee & butter must be avoided on the day of Dhanteras. The reason is very simple, they are not considered auspicious on this day. If someone is in need of any such ingredient then they should definitely buy it a day in advance or after it.
