Significance of Eid al-Adha

Apparently, this popular festival is celebrated across the world by the Muslim community in order to honour Prophet Ibrahim, as he sacrificed his son Ismael for his deep love for Allah. The sacrifice that prophet made was a gesture showing his ultimate sacrifice.

Why is a lamb sacrificed one Eid all-Adha?

Legend has it that before this great sacrifice that Prophet Ibrahim made, Allah intervened and replaced his son with a lamb or a bakri. Prophet thought he was sacrificing his own son, but instead, it was a lamb that was slaughtered that day. Thus, Muslims across the world slaughter the lamb in order to complete this ritual and commemorate Allah’s intervention. Post this sacrifice/offering to Allah, lamb is distributed in three parts to the family & friends and those in need, and cooked for eating. The dishes cooked with this meat are often put up for a daawat or a feast, which the whole family eats together.
