From Luke Coutinho to Pooja Makhija, all the nutritionists and fitness enthusiasts keep talking about the health benefits and culinary uses of Avocado. As per a study, eating an avocado a day for six months builds up lutein stores, which also improves sustained attention, working memory, and problem-solving skills. Also, avocados are also a great source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, which help lower "bad" LDL cholesterol and raise "good" HDL cholesterol.

Well, we agree that avocado is a powerhouse of nutrients, but let us also accept that it is not an affordable fruit. Last, when we checked, it was Rs 450-480 per 250 gms. Isn’t it too much? Certainly, it is and that’s why we have handpicked some of the cheap and easy alternatives that offer similar texture and nutrition. Check them out. (Image: istock)

Mashed Banana

If avocado toast tempts you, but the pocket doesn’t allow it, try replacing mashed avocado with mashed banana and you won’t be disappointed. Don't forget to add fresh pepper and pine nuts on top. (Image: istock)

Nut butter

Made with roasted nuts, this one looks very similar in texture to mashed avocado and goes well with toast and crepes as well. (Image: istock)

Chia Seeds

If you have been tempted to try avocado just because of its nutritional benefits, then you can try chia seeds too, as it is also rich in omega-3 fats, fibre, and protein. (Image: istock)

If you are someone who loves guacamole, but can’t afford making it every day, switch to edamame and add some Mexican spices to it and thank us later! (Image: istock)

Soaked pistachio and cashew paste

You can also replace mashed avocado with a smooth paste of soaked pistachio and cashew and it tastes amazing with toast. (Image: istock)
