Must-try dishes from Korean dramas

Korean dramas have risen to popularity in such a short span of time and have garnered millions of fans from all around the world. While the Korean dramas leave our hearts full, their food leaves us drooling. If you are a fan of K-Dramas and a foodie at the same time, then this article is just for you. Here are some popular dishes from Korean dramas that are a must-try.

2/8

Korean Fried Chicken

Korean Fried Chicken is a delicious chicken-based dish that has been popularised by the K-Drama Crash Landing On You. It is made by first seasoning chicken wings with soy sauce, garlic and honey, and then double-frying them to get that crispy exterior layer. It is best paired with somaek, which is a type of beer.

3/8

Tteokkbokki

Tteokkbokki looks very similar to pasta in appearance. Also called spicy rice cakes, this dish is a staple Korean street food that is coated in a lip-smacking sauce which amps up its flavours. This droolworthy recipe is shown in The Heirs and I Am Not a Robot.

4/8

Sundae

Sundae is often paired with Ttokkbokki and is the most popular Korean street food. This Korean Sundae is not your usual ice cream, instead, it is a type of blood sausage. These sausages are prepared with boiled pig or cow intestines, which are then stuffed with glass noodles, rice and pork blood. Korean drama- Fight for My Way often has mentions of Sundae in it.

5/8

Seaweed Soup

You can find mentions of Seaweed Soup in K-Dramas like The Lonely And Great God and Goblin. In Korean culture, seaweed soup is especially consumed on someone’s birthday. Seaweed soup is prepared by soaking seaweed to make it soft, frying the softened seaweed with sliced beef, sesame oil, and minced garlic, boiling the stock with water, and seasoning with soy sauce or salt.

6/8

Gyeran Mari

Gyeran Mari is a rolled omelette that is made with eggs and vegetables. This fluffy delight is paired with other dishes and served in lunch box sets. It can be seen in K-Drama Boys Over Flowers and is paired with Korean barbecues and stews.

7/8

Japchae

Japchae is another famous noodle-based dish of Korea. Also called glass noodles, it is prepared with sweet-potato based noodles, vegetables and beef. All these ingredients are first stir-fried with a number of spices and then garnished with sesame seeds as a final touch. As shown in the K-Drama Reply 1994, you can either have it in the main course or pair it up with a side dish of your choice.

8/8

Bibimbap

Bibimbap is as delicious in taste as attractive it is to look at. This colourful bowl is also called mixed rice bowl in Korea. The dish is usually served in a stone bowl and consists of white rice topped with a number of vegetables, meat, an egg and Gochujang (a spicy Korean sauce). Bibimbap can be seen in Korean dramas like Full House, Reply 1988 and My Lovely Sam Soon.
