How these foods boost bowel system

A healthy gut is the building block of overall well-being and it plays a key role in digestion, nutrient absorption, immunity, and even mood regulation. Maintaining bowel regularity is a key indicator of gut health, as it reflects how efficiently the digestive system processes and eliminates waste. And all of this relies a lot on a diet rich in fiber, probiotics, and hydration, combined with regular physical activity and mindful eating, as these elements help keep the digestive tract functioning optimally. Keeping the gut healthy and bowel regularity in mind, Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford universities, recently shared a carousel post where he shared 8 gut-healthy snacks that he eats for bowel regularity and explained how they help.

2/9

Kiwi

As per Saurabh, two kiwis a day have been shown in studies to improve stool frequency and soften stools, thanks for their unique fiber and actinidin enzyme.

3/9

Papaya

It is rich in fiber and papain, a natural digestive enzyme that helps break down proteins and ease bloating. As per his post, one cup delivers 3 g fiber and hydration for smoother digestion.

4/9

Greek Yogurt

It is packed with probiotics that feed healthy gut bacteria, plus protein and calcium. It offers about 16 g protein and 190 mg calcium per 3/4 cup serving.

5/9

Almonds and other nuts

As per his post, a half-cup of almonds give 15 g protein and 8 g fiber. They also help produce butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid that fuels colon cells.

6/9

Kefir

It contains 50+ strains of probiotics for gut diversity, while yogurt supports digestion with bacteria like Lactobacillus bulgaricus.

7/9

Hummus and veggie sticks

As per Dr Saurabh, chickpea-based hummus delivers both fiber and protein, feeding your good gut bugs. The veggies add crunch and more fiber.

8/9

Apples

One medium apple has 4 g of fiber plus pectin, a prebiotic that promotes healthy gut bacteria and stool regularity.

9/9

Berry + Walnut

According to Dr Saurabh, blueberries bring antioxidants and fiber; walnuts add omega-3s and promote butyrate, lowering gut inflammation.
