Lesser-known facts about Parle-G

In a recent statement on the official Twitter channel of Parle-G, it was announced that during March, April and May 2020, the company experienced record selling in the last eight decades. If you think this unique fact is the only thing that affirms our love for crunchy and sweet delight, let us tell you that the brand older than our independence is actually the king of biscuits for decades and has been loved by people of all age groups with tea, coffee, milk and even water. ​Largest selling biscuit

According to a survey, Parle-G is the largest selling biscuit brand in the world. In a recent statement, the company has also cleared that during the recent national lockdown due to COVID19, they registered record selling of biscuits in the last 8 decades.

​Older than our Independence

Running successfully for more than 8 decades, the biscuit brand is interestingly older than our Independence as a nation. Parle G started producing biscuits in 1939 in their Vile Parle confectionery and we became independent in 1947.

​G stands for Glucose

Have you ever thought what G stands for in Parle-G? According to the brand, it refers to glucose, the biscuit used to be called Parle Gluco in the early 80s. Later, it was renamed as Parle-G to add some cool factor, and with time people started believing that Parle-G means genius.

According to facts circulating on social media, if Parle-G packets produced in a year are placed around the Earth’s circumference, one would circle the earth 192 times. Also, approx 4500 people enjoy a Parle-G biscuit every second.

​Girl on the packet

If reports doing rounds on social media are to be believed, the cute little girl on the cover is a living human being named Niru Deshpande of Nagpur. However, Mayank Shah, product manager of Parle Company, has cleared the rumors and says that this is not a picture of any real person but just an illustration. The illustration was made by Everest Creative’s artist Maganlal Daiya, way back in the 1960’s.
