7 Fruits diabetics should avoid consuming

Since ages, we have been told about the numerous health benefits of consuming fruits everyday, but are all fruits good for diabetics? Well, people with diabetes are suggested to be mindful about their carbohydrate and sugar intake, which can lead to insulin fluctuations and may lead to spike in blood sugar levels. While fruits are generally a healthy choice, some fruits have high sucrose and fructose, which may hamper insulin levels. Here are 7 common fruits that should be avoided, if you are a diabetic.

2/8

Watermelon

Watermelon is one of the most loved summer fruits, which has a high GI of 72-80 and due to its relatively high sugar content it is important to consume in moderation.

3/8

Bananas

Bananas have varying GI of 42-62 depending on their ripeness. Ripe bananas tend to have a higher GI, so it's best to choose less ripe bananas and eat them in moderation.

4/8

Pineapple

Pineapple has a moderate to high GI of 50-66 along with high amounts of natural sugars, which can instantly spike sugar levels. Thus, it is best to consume in moderation.

5/8

Mango

One of the most loved fruits, mangoes have a moderate GI of 51-60 and high sucrose and fructose, which makes it important for diabetics to consume in a small portion to avoid a spike in sugar levels.

6/8

Grapes

Grapes have a moderate GI of 46-53, but their small size can lead to overconsumption, so diabetics must avoid overeating.

7/8

Cherries

Cherries can have varying GI 20-63, but they are generally moderate to high, so it's advisable to limit consumption.

8/8

Raisins

Raisins are dried grapes and have a relatively high GI 43-64. They are concentrated sources of sugar and should be consumed.
