As per experts, citric acid found in lemons helps prevent kidney stones by increasing by frequent urination and that helps remove all sorts of toxins from the body. As per the National Kidney Foundation, consumption of fresh lemon juice is good for the kidney. It recommends 120 mL (about ½ cup) juice daily to reduce stone recurrence by binding calcium in urine and raising pH to inhibit crystal formation.

As per a study, use of berries in daily diet help with boosting kidney health, through their high anthocyanin, polyphenol, and antioxidant content, which reduce oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis while improving renal function in models of chronic kidney disease (CKD).


How to consume: The best way to consume berries is to add them to a porridge or yogurt-oats bowl in the morning and enjoy.

This fruit is rich in a compound called bromelain, which can help reduce inflammation and support kidney health. As per a study, pineapple is said to support the kidney through its bromelain enzyme, vitamin C, and high water content, which provide anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and diuretic effects that may aid digestion, reduce swelling, and promote hydration in early-stage kidney issues.

They are full of antioxidants and may help reduce inflammation and promote kidney function. It is mentioned that pomegranate has potent antioxidants like punicalagins, ellagic acid, and polyphenols that reduce oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis while improving renal function markers.

How to consume: It is best consumed raw or one can make a juice or salad along with beetroot and amla for added nutrition.

As per experts, fruits like high-potassium bananas, oranges, and avocados, can harm individuals with kidney disease by overwhelming the kidneys' ability to filter excess potassium. In people with compromised kidney function, potassium buildup can lead to serious health issues, including heart arrhythmias. It's important for those with kidney disease to limit high-potassium fruits and consult with a healthcare provider for appropriate dietary choices.
