What happens when you drink Cinnamon Tea

Indian herbs and spices are full of nutrients. And one such spice that is also Ayurveda-approved is cinnamon. According to celebrity nutritionist Rujut Diwekar, cinnamon is effective in improving insulin sensitivity, especially when added to tea with black pepper. For the unversed, cinnamon tea is a comforting beverage, mostly made with the stick or powder, along with water. It’s a powerhouse of flavor and wellness. It is naturally warming and soothing, perfect for mornings or chilly evenings. Beyond its delightful taste, cinnamon tea is packed with antioxidants that help fight inflammation and support immunity. It also aids digestion, stabilizes blood sugar, and can gently boost metabolism. This piece of information explores five reasons to start the day with this tea and the right way of making it.

2/8

Boosts metabolism

It is said that cinnamon helps boost the metabolism early in the day, aiding better calorie burn and energy balance throughout the day. As per a study titled Advances in pharmacological effects and mechanism of action of cinnamaldehyde, cinnamon contains a compound called cinnamaldehyde which helps increase thermogenesis — the process where your body burns calories to produce heat. The study highlights that the compound enhances metabolic health by improving glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity and offers cardiovascular protection through its anti-inflammatory and lipid-lowering effects.

3/8

Stabilizes blood sugar

It is also said to help regulate blood sugar levels, preventing mid-morning energy crashes or sugar cravings. The study titled Cinnamon Use in Type 2 Diabetes: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis by PMC, states that consumption of cinnamon is associated with a statistically significant decrease in levels of fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglyceride levels, and an increase in HDL-C levels.

4/8

Improves digestion

A warm cup of cinnamon tea soothes the stomach, reduces bloating, and promotes healthy digestion. It is said that cinnamon's carminative properties help reduce gas formation and ease bloating, making the stomach feel lighter. Also, the warming nature of cinnamon can calm mild digestive discomfort and promote smooth gastrointestinal function.

5/8

Rich in antioxidants

Cinnamon is packed with polyphenols and helps fight oxidative stress and supports overall immunity. It is said to help protect the body from chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. And it also reduces inflammation, supporting overall health and well-being.

6/8

Enhances mood and focus

The natural aroma of cinnamon has uplifting properties that improve alertness and reduce fatigue, making it a perfect morning ritual. According to a study titled Repeated systemic administration of the cinnamon essential oil possesses anti-anxiety and antidepressant activities in mice, cinnamon essential oil might be used as an adjunctive therapy in improving symptoms of depressive and anxiety disorders.

7/8

How to make Cinnamon Tea at home

Ingredients: 1 cinnamon stick, 1½ cups water, 1 tsp jaggery, 1 tsp lemon juice, and 1 cardamom pod
Method: Boil 1½ cups of water in a saucepan. Add the cinnamon stick. Lower the heat and simmer for 8–10 minutes until the water is aromatic and infused with cinnamon. Strain the tea into a cup. Add jaggery for sweetness and a few drops of lemon juice if desired. Enjoy!

What else to add to Cinnamon Tea

Ginger: Adding ginger helps add a spicy kick and aids digestion while boosting immunity. It is perfect for colder months.
Honey: It naturally sweetens the tea and also soothes the throat and makes great for calming coughs and inflammation.

Cloves: The strong aroma of cloves deepens the overall flavour of the tea and also offers antibacterial benefits, which is ideal for detox and winter wellness.

Turmeric: One can also add a pinch of this golden spice, which further

adds earthy notes and powerful anti-inflammatory properties to the tea.
