What happens when you consume Pomegranate Amla Juice

Vibrant ruby-red seeds of pomegranate are no less than a powerhouse of nutrition. Rich in antioxidants like punicalagins and anthocyanins, they help fight inflammation, protect cells from damage, and slow the aging process. And then there is amla, or Indian gooseberry, which is Ayurveda-approved as a rich source of vitamin C and other nutrients, which helps build immunity and also helps protect the liver from any damage. According to an Instagram post by nutritionist Anjali Mukerjee, when these two foods are combined, they make for a high-nutrient juice that is loaded with benefits. Scroll down to read the details and recipe.

How to make Pomegranate Amla Juice

Ingredients: 1 small amla, 1 cup of pomegranate, chaat masala to taste, and black salt to taste
Method: Grate and blend the deseeded amla, and strain it. Juice the pomegranate. Mix both juices, add a pinch of chaat masala and black salt to taste and serve fresh.

Boosts immunity

Both pomegranate and amla are packed with vitamin C and antioxidants that strengthen the immune system, helping your body fight infections, flu, and fatigue. According to a study, amla is rich in antioxidant and bioactive compound content, including vitamin C, gallic acid, ellagic acid, and other polyphenols that help boost immunity by reducing oxidative stress, lowering inflammation, and enhancing the activity of immune cells. Amla is also known for its anti-microbial, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory benefits that boost immune health. And pomegranate is also rich in vitamin C, which is essential for stimulating white blood cells, helps fight off colds and infections, and also help speed up wound healing. It is said that pomegranate can help inhibit bacteria and viruses, including some that affect the mouth and gut, acting as a natural defense booster.

Pomegranate is also rich in iron and folate content, which help in the production of red blood cells and oxygen circulation, ensuring your immune system has the energy it needs to perform efficiently. Regular consumption of pomegranate or its juice supports the production of antibodies and promotes healthy blood circulation, ensuring vital nutrients reach every cell. Regular consumption improves blood circulation, supports detoxification, and helps the body recover faster from illness.

Improve skin health and glow

In an Instagram post, nutritionist Anjali Mukerjee has mentioned that these deep-coloured fruits are full of a potent variety of antioxidants, including lesser-known phytochemicals that scientists think are important for cellular repair, as well as well-known substances like vitamin C, polyphenols, and anthocyanins. These antioxidants combat free radicals, which are unstable chemicals that gradually harm cells, causing wrinkles, decreased skin suppleness, and other ageing symptoms. This juice works like a natural beauty elixir. Amla promotes collagen production while pomegranate fights oxidative stress — together they help reduce acne, pigmentation, and early signs of ageing. For those struggling with hair fall or premature greying, amla juice nourishes hair follicles and boosts scalp circulation.

Good for liver

According to Dr. Joseph Salhab, a gastroenterologist with expertise in digestion, liver, pancreas & nutrition, pomegranate juice is good for the liver. It is said that pomegranate juice is loaded with powerful antioxidants like polyphenols and flavonoids. These help protect liver cells from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals. The study also suggests that long-term pomegranate intake may be effective in ameliorating liver enzymes in adults with obesity and metabolic disorders who are more likely to have elevated baseline liver enzymes due to some degree of liver injury or tissue damage. And as per a study titled Hepatoprotective properties of the Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis Gaertn): a review, amla is reported to impart beneficial effects on liver function and to mitigate hyperlipidemia and metabolic syndrome. Amla possesses protective effects against chemical-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in animal models of study. In Ayurveda, amla balances Pitta dosha and stimulates bile secretion, aiding digestion and maintaining liver health.

6/7

Enhances heart health

As per a study titled A systematic review on the cardiovascular pharmacology of Emblica officinalis Gaertn., amla has traditionally been considered as a cardioactive medication and has demonstrated remarkable cardiovascular effects in the pharmacological literature. Clinical trials indicate that amla supplementation (often as 500 mg capsules or aqueous extracts) significantly improves lipid profiles by reducing total cholesterol as well. And pomegranate is said to support healthy blood circulation and helps manage cholesterol levels. Their combined effect promotes a stronger, healthier heart.

7/7

Boost brain health

The antioxidants in pomegranate may help fight brain inflammation, improve memory, and protect against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. As per experts, consuming 1 pomegrante daily improves verbal and visual memory. Pomegranate is also said to improve circulation, including to the brain by supporting better oxygen delivery and sharper cognitive function. It is proven that pomegranate helps with memory enhancement, neuroprotection, and cognitive function improvement. And as per a study titled Amla (Emblica officinalis): Role in health management via controlling various biological activities, amla is said to have a neuroprotective effect. The clinical trials state that amla helps improve cholinesterase activity and on memory scores, and lowers total cholesterol levels in a dose-dependent manner.
