How to detox naturally

Holi is the most colourful and vibrant festival but its aftermath can be unpleasant. From Gujiyas and Malpuas to Pakoras and Namakparas, there is such scrumptious variety of delicacies to eat on the festival that it is difficult to say no to them. But over-indulgence in sweets and other delicacies can cause an upset tummy, or just a case of severe indigestion. It can even completely wreck your diet. These foods will help you in keeping hydrated, and provide your body with all the nutrients that will naturally cleanse your body of toxins and help you regain your energy and vitality. These foods will also make sure that you don't gain any excess weight as a result of a day or two's indulgence. So how do we give our system a good rejuvenation after Holi? Through a detox. Spinach

Festive binging often leads to food that are high in fats and low in fiber that often causes constipation. Spinach will help build up bulk in the body and clean the gastrointestinal tract.

4/10

Lemon water

From bloating to indigestion, lemons can naturally cure everything related to your digestive system. A post-Holi detox must have a good dose of lemons, especially as an early morning health ritual. The vitamin C in lemon helps to bring down a hangover and also cleanses the body.

5/10

Apple, ginger and cinnamon water

This detox drink helps in flushing out toxins from the body while boosting the digestive system. The apples add a subtle sweetness, while the cinnamon adds a spicy twist to the drink. Take a pitcher filled with water and add slices of apple and a cinnamon stick to it. Let the ingredients stay in the water for at least an hour before serving.

6/10

Green tea

After having Gujiyas and Malpuas, sipping green tea will help in flushing out toxins from your liver as they are rich in antioxidants. So, say goodbye to those extra fats by just adding honey and pepper to this tea.

7/10

Cucumber water

Post Holi begin your day with a glass of cucumber water as it helps in beating your thirst and also helps you feel full. It also helps in cleansing your body from all the junk and sweets that you have been eating during this festival. To make this detox drink, slice cucumbers and chop mint leaves and leave them in water overnight. The cucumber and mint work together to create magic.

8/10

Beetroot

Beetroot is known to cleanse our liver. After the Holi hangover blanch beetroots and have them the next morning. They have betalains which helps in neutralizing the toxins and flush them out of the body through urine.

9/10

Apple cider vinegar

The detoxifying concoction of these three foods works magically for your body, especially after the festivities when you are loaded with fried, greasy and sugar-laden foods. To make this concoction all you need is sliced apple, 2 tsps of cider vinegar, 1 spoon of fresh lemon juice and you can also add a tsp of honey to it and you are good to go!

10/10

Tomatoes

During Holi time we indulge in too many fried foods, but consuming tomatoes can help you detox faster as they have abundance of antioxidants. It has high water-content that can keep you hydrated throughout the day. Try having them with a little balsamic vinegar and sea salt for better results.
