Indian sneaker brands every Gen Z fashionista must try

Sneakers are not just shoes; they have become a lifestyle for people, and the Indian sneaker market is expected to reach a staggering 25.8 million users by 2029. Sneakers are not just transforming the culture of footwear, but they have also become a style statement for many and an epitome of comfort for others. But if you think that Indians are still crazy about purchasing a Nike Jordan or an Adidas Samba, then you’re mistaken, as many Indians are now interested in homegrown brands that have emerged boldly in the market with stunning designs and iconic innovation and resonate deeply with the local taste. So, if you’re seeking out some big names in the game, then we have our recommendation list ready for you.

Gully Labs (Price range: ₹4,900-₹15,999 approx.)

Started in 2023, in Delhi, Gully Labs is the brainchild of Animesh Mishra and Arjum Singh, who were engineers by profession. They walked into a café in Bandra once and spotted a good pair of sneakers, and next, they were creating a website and a warehouse. Made in India using thick-grain leather and durable rubber, their new collection drops every 60 days, which includes local detailings to global polish. From rangoli motifs to Devanagari script on their boots, they even have street culture references on their shoes.

Thaely (Price range: ₹4,800-₹16,000 approx.)

This desi brand was started as a college project back in 2019, where the team showed what one can do with a plastic bag, which is more than just piling up in the landfills. With a clean design, a futuristic brief, and low impact, it turned waste into sneakers, where each pair is made by using 10 recycled plastic bags and bottles. They have already collaborated with artists like Santanu Hazarika.

Banjaaran (Price range: ₹5,499-₹6,499 approx.)

Started in 2019 by siblings Meera and Karanveer Dureja in Delhi, the brand has taken an oath not to play it safe. They often lean into saturated and vibrant shades, which can easily be located from a distance, and have references that come straight out of India’s heart. You can see Jaipur block prints, ikat, and Multani tiles on a pair of sneakers, which makes everything better and iconic. Everything is made by artisans who have mastered their skills over generations, and each pair looks like a statement.

Neeman’s (Price range: ₹3,699-₹6,999 approx.)

Hyderabad-based business consultants and brothers Amar Preet Singh and Taran Chhabra started this business in 2018, with the idea of creating a multipurpose shoe. They decided to put sustainability front and centre, where they recycled over 3.2 million plastic bottles and around 50,000 kilos of tyres, turning them into sneakers and iconic slippers. Their jogging shoes are made from Australian Merino wool, which is light and odour-resistant. Surprisingly, these pairs are reasonable, and they also have hybrid sneaker-loafers and slip-ons.

Chnks (Price range: ₹3,599-₹3,899 approx.)

Founded by Aakanksha Rathor in 2022, it is a no-fuss sneaker label with a focus on form and function. Created from a mix of 60 per cent suede leather and 40 per cent polyurethane, the pair does not weigh you down when you walk. The designs are clean, muted, and scream minimalist. Whether you’re into chunky soles or high-tops, their pairs are never boring and are far from being low-key. It is perfect for anyone who wishes to switch up their sneaker game and create their own trend.
