Lightweight, breathable fabrics are more than just a fashion preference

Lightweight, breathable fabrics are more than just a fashion preference; they can help protect your skin from irritation, itching, and rashes, especially in hot and humid climates.

Skin rashes, redness, and irritation are becoming increasingly prevalent, courtesy of a combination of extreme weather, perspiration, and clothing that doesn't breathe. What most people don't know is that the garments we wear have a lot to do with aggravating or even preventing these skin irritations.

Natural fibers, particularly those from plant sources, sit between your skin and would-be irritants. They breathe, are kind to sensitive skin, and move with you, so they're perfect for everyday and sensitive skin, suggests Dr Geetika Srivastava, MBBS, MD (AIIMS), Founder of Influennz Clinic, New Delhi.

Let your skin breathe

As opposed to synthetic fabrics, natural fabrics are permeable. This helps in temperature regulation and minimizes the accumulation of sweat, which usually tends to cause prickly heat or fungal infections. Skin remains healthier when it remains cool and dry.

3/6

Softness that soothes, not scratches

Some fabrics might appear nice but become unpleasant to the skin after a couple of hours, particularly across areas such as the underarms, inner thighs, and waist. Plant-based fabrics provide a gentle caress and smooth drape, minimizing rubbing that may lead to redness or chafing. During extended office working hours or errands on a scorching day, they make a difference.

4/6

Moisture-wicking for all-day freshness

Natural cellulosic fabrics such as viscose are created to wick away moisture, not retain it. They draw sweat away from the body and allow it to evaporate quickly. This makes you feel fresher and minimizes the opportunity for bacteria development that causes body odour or rashes.

5/6

Less risk of skin reactions

Most synthetic clothes undergo rigorous chemical treatment or harsh dyeing that can stain the skin and cause allergic reactions or aggravate eczema. Natural, dermatologically safe fabrics, particularly those with the safety mark, are irritant-free. They are a healthier option for people with sensitive skin or repeated skin problems.

6/6

Subtle fashion with skin benefits

New-generation natural clothing, seamlessly merge fashion with skin comfort. They provide the drape and sophistication that fashion enthusiasts desire, while being naturally breathable and skin-friendly. Whether it's for a party night or a hectic day at work, they are a stylish yet sensible option.
