The internet has spoken!

For the fashion industry, this year was a rollercoaster ride, featuring unspoken fashion rules being broken and new transitions happening at the blink of an eye. In 2025, we transitioned from maximalist allure to quiet luxury, where dressing up felt more like a personal language. We left the baggage of 2024 and revived our fashion game this year with 5 fashion trends and aesthetics, which started on Instagram and ended up in our closet.

Y2K fashion made a comeback

In 2025, girls around the world were just hoarding vintage finds online, and the archives kept hidden for long periods of time were having a moment. From iconic skirts to beautiful metallic belts, Y2K fashion core not only covered the chic modern outfits but also saw the revival of ethnic pieces, which were once a hit in the Indian fashion scenario back in the 2000s. From cargo pants to mini tank tops, Y2K brought a wave of experimentation, and everyone just saw right through it.

The mob wife era

Celebs to influencers were spotted in iconic black maximalist outfits paired with gold and bold jewellery, which gave a flashy yet sophisticated look. Yes, this is the aesthetics of the mob wife trend, which saw its peak in India after Alia Bhatt wore a Gucci fit for Demna and completely stole the show. Mob wife opened the doors for animal prints, fashionable boots, old-money jackets, and more, which were fixed with cooler tones and looked absolutely stunning.

Old-money luxury

If there was one aesthetic this year that we saw the most, it was definitely the old money charm. This effortless trend was on every girl’s fashion mood board, giving it a versatile nod. From structured tote bags to pleated office pants and minimal jewellery styling, this year saw the rise of minimalism with a quiet luxury edge, which exuded radiance and refined taste. And, honestly, this trend is not going anywhere even in 2026, as it has proved its versatility and can easily be worn in professional to personal settings.

Plunging towards the future

On the runways and red carpets this year, we saw designers and celebrities opting for structural couture, which carried a futuristic charm with professional styling. With sleek tuxes, quirky ties, and iconic brooches, this aesthetic first dominated the corpcore trend and swiftly moved towards the feminine sphere, where fashionable gowns and dresses carried this vibe with metallic shawls, structured panels, and more.

The soft-girl charm

The soft-girl charm made its comeback in 2023 with the release of ‘Barbie’ the movie, and in 2025, the craze is still on. Women are restocking bow clips and pastel scrunchies in soft colours like yellow, pink, and blue in their wardrobes. This trend has now taken over the functional and practical wardrobe, where women are being spotted in baby pink and lilac shades at Pilates and yoga sessions. The 2025 edition was a much-evolved take on the coquette note, which radiated the soft-girl touch.
