5 reasons why wearing high heels everyday is bad for your health

STOP wearing high heels everyday!

We all love the elevated and lean look we get instantly from a pair of fashionable high heels. But have you ever thought about the price you pay? High heels can cause a range of foot problems. From impairing stability to increasing the risk of injury, they can even lead to structural damage in the foot itself, resulting in neuroma, bunions, and more. Here are five reasons why walking in high heels every day is not a good idea.

2/6

Increased pressure on the forefoot

Wearing high heels frequently puts increased pressure on the forefoot. Imagine your toes handling your entire body weight. This is one of the main concerns and can lead to chronic pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot. It can also cause a condition called metatarsalgia.

Toe deformities

Women who wear high heels all day, especially pointy-toe stilettos, may develop hammertoes and bunions over time. The narrow space in the shoe forces the toes into an unnatural position, which leads to structural changes. This is very common, so it is something to be aware of.

4/6

Altered biomechanics

High heels can alter the natural biomechanics of your feet and ankles. The heel elevation shifts your body weight, which changes overall posture and increases the risk of sprains. Keeping the heel raised also shortens the Achilles tendon, which can lead to tightness in the tendon and calf muscles and potentially cause Achilles tendinitis.

High pressure on the spine

High heels do not just affect the feet, they also impact the entire skeletal system. The altered posture caused by wearing heels increases pressure on the spine, contributing to frequent back pain, discomfort, and eventually changes in spinal alignment.

Corns and loss of natural grip

The pressure and friction from high heels often lead to corns and calluses on the feet. These thickened areas of skin can be painful and require daily maintenance. High-heeled shoes also typically lack shock absorption and reduce natural grip, making careful walking essential to prevent slips or falls.
