A fitting tribute to his roots

Indian sensation Diljit Dosanjh made history with his iconic Met Gala debut, arriving like a modern-day Punjabi prince on the blue carpet. Dressed in a custom ensemble by Prabal Gurung, he turned heads and commanded attention with regal ease. The collaboration was nothing short of sartorial perfection, Gurung masterfully honoured Diljit’s Punjabi heritage while seamlessly blending Eastern tradition with Western couture. Exuding the unmistakable energy of the Maharaja of Patiala, Diljit brought a royal flair to the fashion world’s most prestigious night.

Channelling his cultural roots through style and breaking Western fashion stereotypes, Diljit’s couture screamed of dramatic silhouette, rich colour, and iconic detailing. In true showman style, the singer-actor stepped out of New York’s Carlyle Hotel in an impeccably tailored white sherwani suit with a structured mid-slit and layered it with a traditional Indian cape, exuding royal finesse.

Adding a patch of Sikh authenticity

Diljit has become a global sensation for his music albums and fashion prowess, but has always managed to find his way back to his Indian roots. He completed the sherwani suit with matching tailored pants and took the outfit to a whole new level of sophistication by adding a sleek white turban. It was further decorated with stunning gold chains with a royal feather touch, and he brought the house down with his powerful look.

Nod to Sikh authenticity

While the white turban added the right amount of traditional authenticity, what caught our eyes was the holy Punjabi Gurumukhi pasted on the majestic cape. A proud and historic moment for the Sikh and Punjabi community, Diljit just did not stop there. He truly sealed the Maharaja's energy by carrying a gold-plated sword case, which is a nod to the ceremonial accessories of Indian kings. It is a symbol of strength, pride, and legacy, and Diljit indeed brought that aura to international floors, proving who’s the real king of all.

Oozing dandyism in Maharaja style

The regal combination of Diljit working with Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung is history in the making. However, this is not the first time for the designer to work with an Indian celeb, as he created the iconic white beaded ball gown for Alia Bhatt’s Met Gala debut and has also worked with Deepika Padukone. Though the couture always does the talking for the model on the fashion carpet, even the creation bowed down in front of Dosanjh’s aura, proving it’s his world and we’re just living in it.
