Making everyday a runway

Rekha’s reel life has always been awe-inspiring, but the diva is known for being reserved and absolutely starry when it comes to giving fashion moments. Living life on her terms without being unapologetic about her choices, it’s the same when it comes to carving out her wardrobe. From stunning Anarkalis to ravishing Kanjeevarams, there’s more to her signature red lips and divine sindoor. Let’s take a look at 5 iconic looks of Rekha, witnessed over the years.

Desi Kanjeevaram at the Dior 2023 show

Rekha attended the Dior Fall 2023 show by Maria Grazia Chiuri at the Gateway of India in a timeless Kanjeeveram silk saree. Dipped in the shades of mauve and golden hues, she wore this sleek six-yard brocade with a matching half-sleeve blouse and adorned her signature gold-red bangle set with statement rings, gajra, and platform heels. Rounding off the look with a centre-parted sleek bun and shimmer eye shadow, she glowed like a fresh Indian bride.

Captivating Anarkalis from ‘Umrao Jaan’

Rekha’s iconic kohl-lined gaze from the 1981 tragedy film ‘Umrao Jaan’ was a career-defining moment for the actress, as it made her win the National Film Award for Best Actress. Dressed in lustrous silk Anarkalis with emerald and pearl jewels, the stunning red and white sheer organza Anarkalis made its way into the fashion diaries and is still an iconic ensemble.

Fiery red saree from ‘Parineeta’

Grabbing eyeballs across the nation for her cameo appearance in the song ‘Kaisi Paheli’ stole the absolute show. Dressed in a red and black embroidered net saree with a matching off-shoulder blouse, the six yards of drape became a daring fashion sensation. Serving a mood board for soirées and cocktail affairs, the bold red lip became the diva’s absolute signature, with the net gloves and rose hair accessory adding the right amount of drama.

The ravishing pant saree drape

While Banarasis and Kanjeevarams became her signature style, Rekha never shied away from experimenting and attended awards shows and Bollywood events in pant sarees. Bringing a contemporary edge to her traditional ensemble, she walked the red carpet in a Manish Malhotra creation. Dipped in ivory hues with intricate embroidery and gold gota patti work, she teamed it with a full-sleeved silk blouse and matching pants, which became the highlight of the hour.

The never-ending love for Kanjeevarams

Rekha, wrapped in Kanjeevaram grace, is a mesmerising scene to witness. Cultivating an army of luxurious Kanjeevarams in her wardrobe, it somehow became her signature look that went on to inspire many. Embracing the grace of this silk affair, she mastered the art of draping golden to copper metallic Kanjeevarams and donned them at almost every event. However, the gorgeous turquoise and gold brocade drape worn at the NMACC Gala has our hearts.
