A starry kick-off in Melbourne

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 opened on a glamorous note with a grand press conference that set the city buzzing. Among the biggest names present, Bollywood icon Aamir Khan and his girlfriend Gauri Spratt drew the most attention as they walked in together, immediately becoming the talking point of the evening.

2/5

Aamir and Gauri’s coordinated elegance

Fashion always takes centre stage at red-carpet moments, and this one was no exception. Aamir Khan opted for a timeless white kurta layered with a sharp black bandhgala jacket, a look that was classic, confident, and culturally rooted. Gauri Spratt complemented him in a purple bandhni print salwar suit paired with a beige dupatta. Their understated yet refined style showed us that sometimes, effortless elegance makes the strongest impression.

3/5

A line-up of powerhouses

The event wasn’t just about star power; it was about cinematic gravitas. The guest list included comedian-actor Vir Das, performers Tillotama Shome, Jim Sarbh, and Aditi Rao Hydari, alongside acclaimed filmmakers Shoojit Sircar, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, RS Prasanna, and renowned casting director Mukesh Chhabra. Each arrival added weight to the promise of an unforgettable festival.

4/5

Tradition meets global stage

One of the most moving moments came when Aamir Khan inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp. True to Indian tradition, he respectfully removed his shoes before performing the ritual. This symbolic gesture was more than ceremonial, it was a reminder of how deeply rooted traditions can gracefully travel and resonate across international soil.

5/5

Opening night energy with Baksho Bondi

The night grew even more spirited when Aamir Khan introduced the festival’s Opening Night Film, Baksho Bondi, alongside its star-studded cast and producer Jim Sarbh. With filmmakers, cinephiles, and artists sharing the same space, the atmosphere was electric. The 11-day celebration, running from 14 to 24 August, promises to bring together cinema and culture in ways that leave a lasting impact.
