Pakistani label that has everyone talking

Did you see a few silk suits with a scroll-stopping Instagram drop, with Bollywood diva Alia Bhatt’s face fronting a Pakistani label? Then congratulations; you’ve been fooled by AI. Social media was set ablaze this week, when a renowned Pakistani clothing label named Wajayesha posted a series of pictures on its social media handle, featuring Alia’s face as their brand ambassador for their latest ethnic drop.

Eager-eyed fans at rescue

But don’t worry, Alia Bhatt has a massive global fan following, and it didn’t take long for them to come to her defence. A closer look quickly revealed that the images were AI-generated. The brand had edited photos originally posted on her Instagram, altering her outfits while keeping the background, makeup, and hairstyle exactly the same.

Alia in a variety of silk suits

From lilac to sage green, the actress can be seen wearing knee-length, fitted, plain silk kurtas featuring a round neckline with full sleeves; matching patiala trousers; and a similar-hued dupatta with a golden frilled decorated border. The caption of the post read: 'Even Alia Bhatt likes our pure shisha silk collection!! Colour can be customised; book your order now.”

From Sabyasachi to the L'Oréal runway

The outfits look almost realistic on the actress, as if they’ve been released from a shoot, but they are digitally edited pictures with high-end retouching. The original pictures are from her walk on the L'Oréal runway and her Sabyasachi photoshoots, where she can be seen with jewellery sets and floral accessories. Another set appears to be stolen from her Gucci show at Milan, which the actress attended in February.

How serious is the situation?

Well, the actress can sue the brand for editing her pictures. This isn’t the first time local or international labels have used celebrity fakes to boost their sales. By using popular faces, brands tap into the aspirational value of the individual and try to use their influence without any endorsement fees. This situation reveals just how deeply fashion and identity are intertwined today - to the point where people can be easily misled, and the impact now stretches far beyond borders.
