5 biggest fashion trends set by Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026

It’s not for nothing that they call Paris the fashion capital of the world! For when Paris rolls out the carpet during the fashion season, the world watches – and what emerges usually sets the tone for what we’ll see in high streets, magazine editorials, social media, and celebrity wardrobes for the next season.

The Spring/Summer 2026 runways in Paris were no exception.

This time, Paris Fashion Week SS26 was more than just a showcase – it was a statement. Against a backdrop of heritage houses, bold new creatives, and global issues, designers merged romance, utility, colour, and craftsmanship into collections that feel both fresh and deeply rooted. Beyond glamour and spectacle, this season’s shows offered bold creative shifts, new visions from incoming creative directors, and a poetic balance between heritage and fresh direction.

The streets weren’t far behind; in fact, they responded in kind, as pastel taffetas, dramatic shoulders, lace, and walkable glamour filled both catwalks and sidewalks. Designers played with structure and softness, archive elements and radical reinventions. This season, fashion lovers saw runway presentations that played with contrasts: softness and structure, nostalgia and futurism, luxury and sustainability.

There’s also a notable renewed embrace of color, silhouette, and identity. While new voices and new hands at storied houses have pushed boundaries, the trends do not just cater to the elite.

What sets this moment apart is not just what designers showed, but how those trends reflect cultural undercurrents. What trends emerged from such a spectacular moment in fashion?

2/6

Ballerina Pink and Soft Pastels

One of the most talked-about colour moments this season was the resurgence of ballerina pink – soft, powdery, and feminine. Designers like Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford, Stella McCartney, and Dior used this shade in tailoring, romantic dresses, deconstructed silhouettes, and ruffles. The softness of pastel tones offered a counterpoint to strong structure and bold accessories.

Why it works: Pastels like ballerina pink feel fresh yet timeless. They soften sharp cuts and elevate casual wear without overpowering delicate looks.

How to wear it: Try a pastel blazer, a silk blouse, or even accessories like belts or bags in ballerina pink. Pair with neutrals or stronger colours for contrast. A pale pink dress with metallic or gold accessories can also look elevated and fashion-forward.

3/6

Exaggerated Shoulders and Architectural Silhouettes

Strong shoulders continue to dominate, but this season, they were taken to architectural extremes. Designers used structural tailoring, puffed or extended shoulder pads, wide blazers, and exaggerated proportions. Names like Balenciaga, Chanel, Victoria Beckham, and others pushed the silhouette so it feels like armour and elegance in one.

Why it works: Shoulders frame the body and posture. They imply strength and presence. When exaggerated, they challenge norms and make a statement, especially when contrasted with soft or fluid fabrics.

How to wear it: Choose a blazer or coat with pronounced shoulder lines. Pair it with a softer bottom (flowy skirt or straight trousers) so balance is maintained. Keep accessories minimal to let the shape shine.

4/6

Skinny Belts and Cinched Waists

In a move away from the loose fits dominating prior seasons, SS26 brought back thin belts and waist-highlighting silhouettes. Skinny belts appeared over flowy dresses, structured suits, balloon skirts, and trench coats – used to define curves and draw attention to the waist. Brands like Mugler, Courrèges, Louis Vuitton, and Tom Ford leaned into this trend.

Why it works: The waist is a natural focal point. By cinching in that area, outfits gain shape, proportions feel more curated, and even relaxed pieces can look polished.

How to wear it: Use a slim leather belt over a midi dress, cinch a blazer, or stack belts over outerwear. Even with wide trousers or skirts, a thin belt gives structure.

5/6

Bold Colours and Graphic Contrast

While pastels and romantic shades were very present, SS26 didn’t shy away from loud colour moments. High-octane yellows (lemon tones), vibrant colour blocking, and contrast (light vs dark, matte vs shine) appeared across several major collections. Designers used bold hues alongside metallics or against neutral backdrops for impact.

Why it works: Colour is emotional; loud tones signal optimism, joy, and confidence. After seasons of muted minimalism or earth tones, bright colours feel refreshing and energizing.

How to wear it: Try one statement piece – a coat, trousers, or dress – in a bold colour, and let it dominate. Or use colour contrast: a bright top with a neutral bottom, or colour-block accessories. Metallic trims or shoes can help amplify without overwhelming.

6/6

Lace: Sheer Fabrics and Romantic Textures

Romance was very much in the air. Lace – once primarily for lingerie or bridal wear – has been reimagined across everyday wear. Sheer fabrics, ruffles, lace overlays, and decorative trim made appearances in collections by Valentino, Chloé, Stella McCartney, and others. Those details merged with pops of floral or boho flair.

Why it works: Lace and see-through fabrics bring an element of sensuality, but also layering possibilities. They allow for modesty and daring in balance. They also tie to nostalgia – romantic vintage references that feel comforting after years of minimalist trends.

How to wear it: A lace top layered over a camisole, or sheer panels in skirts and dresses. Lace trim on sleeves, cuffs, or collars can add texture without demanding full commitment.
