Holi- the festival of colours

Holi, also called as the festival of colours, is a major Hindu festival which is celebrated in India and many countries across the world. The festival is celebrated according to the Hindu calendar in the month of Bikram Sambat. On this day, people wish each other and then play with dry or water colours by gathering at a place or playground or an open place, which is why it is known as the festival of colours. Holi is celebrated to mark the on-set of spring and the end of winter. A night before Holi people celebrate Holika Dahan. It is a ritual where some wooden blocks are collected and later the idol of Holika, the evil sister of King Hiranyakashipu in Hindu mythology, is burnt. The legend goes as: King Hiranyakashipu's son Prahalad was a Lord Vishnu follower. But the King didn't like his devotion; he wanted the people of his kingdom to workship him. So he and his sister Holika conspired to kill Prahalad. Holika made a trap to kill the King's son; according to her plan, she took Prahlada into the fire but in that fire, Holika ends up dying while Prahalad is saved by Lord Vishnu. And it is because of this tale that we celebrate Holika Dahan before a night before the Holi Festival.

Here are some Holi greeting cards and spring quotes apt for Holi which you can send to your loved ones on this festival of colour.
