Virat Kohli gets a vegan tattoo ahead of IPL 2026 - Know its meaning and what it reveals about his lifestyle shift

Virat Kohli goes deeper into vegan living

Just ahead of the high-voltage Indian Premier League 2026, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has once again become the centre of attention. However, this time it is not because of his on-field prowess but rather due to a personal off-field lifestyle choice. The icon recently unveiled a new tattoo that aligns with his long-standing commitment to veganism. RCB’s star batter got a new full-sleeve tattoo on his left hand, which features elements like the beautiful lotus flower.

What does it signify?

Virat carefully chose Aliens Tattoo India, who designed this beautiful vision representing Kohli’s personal development over the years. The goal was to create a cohesive piece combining his past experiences with his current mindset. The artists released a video on Instagram explaining the whole ideation, where they wrote, “This piece draws from his journey as a person. It reflects the transformation he has gone through, what he has moved beyond, what he has arrived at, and the direction he continues to move in."

But it was not on a clean canvas

The design left Virat Kohli’s fans in awe because the area already had existing tattoos, including an incomplete armband originally inspired by Lord Shiva, with other elements picked from different phases of his life. But as these tattoos faded, the original structure and sharpness softened. The artists covered some parts, refined and restored some other areas, and created a beautiful lotus flower.

The multiple elements involved

The new design sits on the elbow, which starts with complex mandala art created through dotwork, followed by a geometric lotus flower, which is created with stippling techniques on the back. You can also witness a beautiful peony and a blooming lotus, which means a flower that is rising from the muddy waters and is untouched by the filth it grows from. It serves peace, harmony, resilience, and the ability to maintain focus and discipline in life.

But how is veganism involved in this?

Virat Kohli’s new tattoo is made from vegan ink, which is cruelty-free. This means it does not contain animal-derived ingredients and is also not tested on animals. These inks usually contain plant-based or synthetic ingredients and are available in ample colours. Well, it is a sane decision to move from the usual black ink to a vegan one, but there isn’t any significant medical difference. The real factors influencing tattoo safety should revolve around proper aftercare, hygiene during the process, quality of the ink, and, of course, skin sensitivity.
