Weather shift, skin shift: How to adjust your skincare routine from summer to monsoon
Monsoon arrives and humidity spikes, leading to the most annoying thing one can experience- your skin acting all over the place. With monsoon here, be ready for skin challenges like breakouts, fungal infections, dullness and more, unless you decide to take charge by providing extra care. Dr Trishna Gupte, Clinical Cosmetologist & Founder, The Cosmo-Square Clinic, says, "Humidity is one of the greatest problems in the monsoon. The skin gets wet often, and with the constant wetting and drying, a lot of dehydration can take place. During monsoon, a lot of airborne and waterborne microbes are let loose. A good anti-bacterial toner can prevent skin infections and eruptions. Common symptoms of the skin allergies consist of redness, blistering, itching, and swelling of the skin that affects the epidermis in the form of rashes, hives, and eczemas."
So what can you do?
"To keep your skin healthy, follow a few simple habits. Choose lightweight gel-based moisturisers over heavy creams, cleanse with a gentle pH-balanced face wash twice a day, and exfoliate weekly using mild ingredients like lactic or mandelic acid. If you're prone to fungal infections, use an antifungal powder or lotion on body folds and feet. And don’t skip sunscreen—apply a non-comedogenic one daily, rain or shine," shares Dr Trishna Gupte
Seasonal skincare does not require a complete product overhaul, but rather intelligent substitutions. Pay attention to the needs of your skin and adjust your regimen accordingly. When flare-ups persist, don't hesitate to seek advice from a skincare professional. A little proactive care now will ensure that your skin remains clear, healthy, and radiant, regardless of the weather.
