Break your bad hair habits by following these dos and don'ts

Healthy and shiny hair is what most women work really hard to achieve. But, what you follow on a daily basis can lead to bad hair habits which can ultimately leave your hair lifeless and dull. There are some common bad hair habits that can damage your hair and you need to follow these dos and don'ts to take good care of your hair.

2/6

Shabby shampooing

Over-shampooing can very much cause your scalp to become itchy and tight. Not shampooing enough can cause the scalp to become oily and that causes dandruff. Shampooing habits can vary depending on activity levels, oily scalp, etc. You shouldn't allow the oil to build up on the scalp and become itchy or scaly. If you have dry hair, you can wash it every two days but the frequency depends on your activity level.

3/6

Styling wet hair

When your hair is wet, it is at its weakest and most vulnerable state. Wet hair can stretch, cause breakage and damage the cuticle. Hence, you need to avoid brushing for combing your hair when wet. Gentle hair care like pat drying your hair with a towel before you blow-dry them can help. Don't rub your hair while drying them, it creates tangles. You must dry your hair 90% before styling them.

4/6

Skipping trimmings

A common bad hair habit that you might be following is to not get regular trims. This leaves your hair with split-ends and breakage. How often you get your hair trimmed depends on what you do to your hair on a regular basis. Someone who straightens or curls hair daily needs a trim often than someone who just blow-dries. You need to have a closer look at the hair ends, if they don't come to a blunt end, it is time to trim your hair.

5/6

Tight braids

Another horror that can damage your hair is to tie tight braids. Wearing hair accessories tightly can very much cause hair damage as your strands can pop and break. Chronic pulling on your hair follicle can thus cause hair loss that can be permanent.

6/6

Poor eating habits

Your diet plays a major role in your hair care. If your body doesn't get enough vitamins, minerals and protein, it cannot sustain hair growth. If you don't get enough iron, it can lead to iron-deficiency which can then contribute to hair loss. Bad habits like crash or fad diets also contribute to problems and hair loss is very much a common side effect of eating disorders like bulimia or anorexia. Hence, you need to make sure you get enough protein in your diet to maintain good hair care.
