History of Argan Oil

Emerging as a wonder product in the segment of natural haircare, argan oil, or ‘Moroccan oil’, is best known for treating damaged and dry hair strands. Indigenous to Morocco, it has been used by local communities for centuries, where the Argan tree is known as the ‘tree of life’. Intertwined deeply with the lives of the local communities, these trees are the last green coverings in the desert. The extraction process involves traditional methods that are passed down over generations and are now being used in the beauty industry, thus gaining the name of ‘liquid gold’ or ‘red gold’.

Nutritional content of argan oil

Argan oil is completely natural and has essential fatty acids, vitamin E, and antioxidants. The high content of unsaturated fatty acids promotes hair growth and adds shine while soothing an irritated and itchy scalp. Vitamin E further manages the frizz and strengthens the defensive barrier of each strand, thus preventing the ends and cuticles from getting damaged. Power-packed with these ingredients, argan oil is now being heavily used in the beauty industry.

How to use argan oil for hair growth?

Step 1: Damp your hair strands slightly and add a small amount of warm argan oil to your hands. Rub them together and easily distribute them on your strands. Let the oil get absorbed, and start the gentle massaging process.

Step 2: You can also add some moringa and coconut oil for brilliant smoothing and no-frizz charm, but focus on areas that tend to be frizzy and dry. Also, only apply argan oil to the scalp; do not apply moringa and coconut oil, as it will make your scalp look greasy.

Step 3: Use a wide-tooth comb and distribute the oil evenly through your hair. You can let your strands air dry, or you can seal your locks with a warm towel.

Step 4: Keep it for 45 minutes and then wash your hair with argan-induced shampoo and conditioner.

Can one use argan oil overnight?

Yes, argan oil can easily be used before going to bed in order to provide intense hydration and nourishment to your strands. However, argan oil is not a suitable choice for every hair type. People who have an oily scalp or combination scalp should avoid this completely. The thick consistency of argan oil makes the scalp extra greasy, which will allow the dandruff, dirt, and grime to settle in completely. However, people with dry scalps or looking for extra hydration can opt for this liquid gold.

How much argan oil is safe?

No research or expert has determined the topical safety use of argan oil, but many clinical trials have studied that applying up to 10 drops of argan oil is more than enough for your scalp. However, if you frequently apply this liquid gold, it will increase the risk of irritation, clogged pores, and breakouts, especially for people already dealing with oily scalp and facial skin.

Final verdict

For decades, people have been religiously using coconut oil in Indian households, but the entry of argan oil for scalp massage can create a magical breakthrough. Even though this oil has not been very well known until recently, the success and popularity stories have changed not just the realm of hair care but the lives of communities that produce it. A completely natural solution, argan oil can be a perfect part of your hair grooming regime.
