5 hair growth hacks no one told you about

Genius hair growth hacks

If there’s one beauty struggle that unites almost all Indian men and women, it’s hair fall. Whether it’s stress, weather changes, hard water, hormonal shifts or simply neglect, our hair often takes the hit first. And while we’ve grown up hearing about coconut oil, onion juice and rice water, there are some lesser-known (but incredibly effective) hair growth hacks that actually work, especially in the Indian climate.

2/7

Hot towel always works

You’ve probably oiled your hair your whole life, but here’s the step no one talks about, the hot towel wrap right after oiling.

Take any lightweight oil (coconut, almond, sesame or a blend), warm it slightly, and massage your scalp for 5–7 minutes. Then dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the excess and wrap it around your head.

Why this works:

Heat opens up the cuticles, boosts blood flow and allows the oil to penetrate deeper. This simple spa-like step enhances nutrient absorption by almost 3x. It’s especially great for treating thinning hair, postpartum hair fall and seasonal shedding.

Try doing this once a week, the results show up surprisingly fast.

3/7

Fenugreek (methi) water

Most people know that methi seeds are great for hair, but very few use them the right way. The hack? Fenugreek spritz.

Soak methi overnight, strain the water in the morning and pour it into a spray bottle. This becomes a protein-rich, anti-inflammatory leave-in tonic that you can mist onto your scalp daily.

Why it works:

Fenugreek water contains nicotinic acid and phytoestrogens that strengthen follicles, encourage new growth and reduce itching and dandruff, a very common cause of hair fall in Indian humidity.

It’s super lightweight, doesn’t smell as strong as paste and gives the scalp a cooling, soothed feel.

4/7

Haldi doodh

This sounds like a dadi-nani remedy, but turmeric milk (haldi doodh) is a hair saviour. Add chia seeds to it and it becomes a complete hair repair drink.

Turmeric reduces inflammation in the body, chia seeds supply omega-3 fatty acids and the warm milk helps your body absorb everything better.

Why Indian women should try this:

A lot of our hair fall comes from internal stress, poor sleep and vitamin deficiencies. A warm haldi-chia milk an hour before bed supports digestion, balances hormones and helps the body produce better keratin.

This is one of those remedies where you’ll notice thicker regrowth from the roots after 4–6 weeks.

5/7

Weekly scalp reset

Between dust, sweat, pollution and product buildup, the Indian scalp gets congested faster than we realise. A clogged scalp becomes a suffocated scalp, which eventually becomes a hair fall scalp.

A once-a-week scalp reset works like magic:

Mix curd + lemon juice + aloe vera gel

Massage onto scalp for 10 minutes

Leave for 15

Rinse with cool water

This mixture naturally exfoliates dead skin, controls oil, balances pH and gives follicles a clean, fresh environment to grow in.

Why this is underrated:

Most people exfoliate their face but forget the scalp. A clean scalp = better oxygen supply = stronger, longer, shinier hair.Between dust, sweat, pollution and product buildup, the Indian scalp gets congested faster than we realise. 6/7

Give yourself time

These hacks aren’t fancy, expensive or complicated, they are small changes that target the root of most hair problems: weak follicles, poor circulation and inflammation.

In Indian weather conditions, with our heat, humidity and pollution, these remedies work even better because they nourish and protect your scalp at the same time.

Give yourself 4–6 weeks.

Pair these with proper sleep, hydration and gentle hair handling.

Your hair will grow. Your thickness will return. And your scalp will feel healthier than it has in years.

7/7

Now, flaunt that mane

Winter might tempt you to hide under woollen caps and chunky scarves, but this season is actually the perfect time to flaunt your long, gorgeous hair. The cold air naturally reduces frizz, giving your strands a sleeker, more manageable fall. Just keep your hair well-oiled and deeply conditioned, and you’ll notice how beautifully it behaves in winter light. Whether you wear it in loose waves, a polished blowout, or a simple braid draped over your shoulder, long hair adds a touch of softness and elegance to every outfit. So don’t tuck it away, let your lengths flow, shine, and steal the spotlight this winter.
